Title: New relationship
Description: What do I do now?

axeheadfloating - July 9, 2006 07:49 PM (GMT)
I'm just starting a relationship with a guy who has been one of my best friends for quite some time now. I really like him...
What is some advice to get this relationship to center around God? I really would like to build it on Him, and let Him have controll, but how do you start that?

Thanks

well...is he a Christian as well?

You could find a good couples' devotionals book & do those together.

Do you go to the same church? If not, maybe you could start, and attend one of their Bible study groups or youth groups together....

Pray together...

It's great to see you wanting to center your relationship around God! May He bless you in your new relationship.... :amen:

Yes, he is a christian as well. But we are different denominations. Do you think that is bad? I know that if we were to get married we would go to church together, but right now we are different. We really don't believe all that different.
Any Suggestions on books or devos?

I don't have any suggestions on books or devos....I'm sadly lacking in that department altho I'm sure some others on here will jump in with some suggestions... B)

As for the different denominations, my DH & I are of different denominations as well. IMO, I don't see a problem with it, as long as your "basic beliefs" are the same. There are a few slight differences with mine & his, but nothing to squabble over.

Maybe he could attend your church with you one week, then you with him the next...that way you could get used to each other's house of worship.

IT'S GREAT THAT YOU ARE WANTING TO KEEP GOD IN THE CENTER. KEEP WORKING AT IT....THAT'S A HARD THING TO ACCOMPLISH IN ANY RELATIONSHIP ALL THE TIME...IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF EFFORT AND A LOT OF HARD WORK. BUT IT IS SOOOO WORTH IT!!

HERE ARE A FEW GOOD BOOKS THAT HAVE HELPED ME AND THE HUBS BEFORE AND AFTER MARRIAGE....

1)UNION IN TRUTH BY NORTH (CAN'T REMEMBER HIS FIRST NAME, SORRY)
**THIS ONE IS GREAT FOR FINDING A COMMON GROUND BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE W/ TWO DIFFERENT CHURCH BACKGROUNDS!!

2)A MARRIAGE AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART BY DAVID CLARKE.
**THIS CAN APPLY TO YOU EVEN IF YOU AREN'T MARRIED. IT GIVES A GREAT PERSPECTIVE W/ ANY RELATIONSHIP REALLY.

3)BEYOND BUMPER STICKER ETHICS (CAN'T REMEMBER THE AUTHOR. SORRY)

4) JESUS CHRIST DISCIPLEMAKER BY HULL

5)ALSO, DENNIS RAINEY HAS GREAT RELATIONSHIP BUILDING BOOKS/SERIES. WE DID ONE ON MARRIAGE, BUT I THINK THERE IS ONE FOR DATING/COUPLES TOO. IT IS EXCELLENT!!!

HOPE THAT GIVES YOU SOME STARTERS.... :dunno:
