Title: Some things I’m always looking for.

Hey, I always have my eye out for free textures and free or low-cost royalty-free music and if you happen to have a list of links on hand for such sites I’d appreciate it if you would share them with me. Also if you are rummaging around on the Internet in the future and happen to come across such sites/files feel free to post it here or PM the links to me.

By textures I mean graphical pics I can use to texture my 3D models. Mainly I just look for tiled textures, so like if you set the texture as a wallpaper on your computer and set it for tile they would all fit as small tiles on your screen and look as one large picture. It doesn’t matter what format they are in, they just need to be of good quality and need to be distributed as free textures for use in 3D modeling or any use. Often the site will carry a license for their textures so that later they cant come and demand money after you already have your textured models out there. No worries if you are not sure, I’ll check the site out and quickly find if I can use them or not for what I’m doing. I do make my own, but sometimes there is just no reason to reinvent the wheel when you are dealing with 1000 of textures.

For royalty-free music, I’m looking for specially licensed music that can be used in projects without the need to pay a royalty to the producer for every song distributed. Often the only thing in the license is that you cannot redistribute the music separately from a project which is no problem. I’ve seen some sites charge $1000 a song while others charge about $5 per song when you buy a set of 10 or so songs on a CD or as a digital download. I’m looking for pretty much anything (except rap heh) but especially classic worship music. It just needs to be royalty-free or public domain music. At this point my search is still pretty fresh, I’d like to find some free stuff to add into the collection since I‘m not running a big budget for this.

Partners in Rhyme is a site where I find most of my sound effects. They have some music, but not much. Since my stuff is on a site that has paid an RIAA royalty, I can use any music I want. Hey, for a sample of my stuff, check out Gutter's radio station Sound Relevance (or you can click on the thing in his sig). Or you can download them here:

Yeah, I actually have that link. They don’t have a huge selection of full tracks but that new Hollywood soundtrack cd is pretty good. It would be great to have like that fantasy song from it expanded to a whole cd collection of fantasy songs. They have a lot of sound effects at their site, I downloaded some of them a few months back but I’m not sure if I’ll be using them yet. A site I like a lot for music is www.music2hues.com such as like the pastoral cd from the flagship list.

Two of your mp3 links don’t work. You mean like the U2 background music loop in the second link? Yeah, that would be pretty good for broadcast if I were doing broadcast. I think I’ll have use for some music sound loops but I’m not sure where I’ll be placing them yet, I’m going to try to fill the game world/project with as many full length music tracks as I possibly can. That will be like 30 zones with one full length song for each and then sub-zones (I.e. dungeons, shops, houses, Churches, coffee houses) that will have their own full length song file or in some cases sermons or audio books such as Pilgrims Progress… heh well not the whole thing but parts of it. Not every sub-zone will have its own distinct song file but many of the most relative ones will which adds up to well over 100 full length songs.

If you are looking for sound effects… *searches bookmarks* http://www.findsounds.com/ though be careful not to use sounds that could get you in trouble over license rights. I usually check the site that the sound is coming from to determine whether or not I could use it.

Thanks for the reply :)

Which 2? The links look fine.

Only hate.mp3 works, the other two bring up a missing object page.

By that, do you mean you ask permission from the site owner? Or look for a disclaimer?

This site's got some pretty cool stuff!

Some of them have a right of use statement for their sounds on their site. That is especially true for original sound files but for some sounds they are plastered everywhere and their origins lost. Some sites though, they make it a written point not to take their sounds and use them on your site or in other uses.
