Title: Sean was accepted into Preschool

SO, I had a meeting with the Child Study Team at our public school this morning. I don't know if you guys remember, but I had Sean evaluated for the handicap program a few months ago. I found out today that Sean was accepted into the Preschool Handicap program for speech and language. So now I'm feeling a little mixed about it!
I'm so glad that we're getting him the help he needs. But then I feel bad that he needs help at all! It's not that there was anything I could have done to prevent this problem. He has motor function problems with his tongue, so he doesn't make front of mouth sounds very well or at all. As far as the rest of the tests were concerned, he did really well. He was even above average for some things, so he's a bright little bugger.
Then there's the idea that it's FREE and preschool was going to cost us $150 a month. Oh, and this annoyed me. I left a deposit at the school he was going to go to. This is the place that suggested I have him evaluated in the first place, and they won't give me my $50 back!! They said they turned kids away because he had the spot. Well, I know they have a waiting list and they'll fill his spot. SO GIVE ME MY $50!!
So now we have to decide if we should send him for summer school...which I'm leaning against. Or wait and have him start in September with Sarah.
I'm kind of relieved this is over...now we really have to find a house in our town!

You're so blessed. Sean's speech problems are relatively minor considering the start he got in life. So cool he got accepted and can get help

I feel so old! My baby's going into grade 1 come September!
Good to hear that Sean will be getting the early intervention he needs. I have a niece who has a speech impediment and her parents refused to have any extra help, even when I noticed it as she was younger and even mil chimed in with me....they still kept insisting "she'll grow out of it". NOT. Sil home-schooled and now my niece will be going to a public highschool in September...and I'm worried about how kids and teachers are going to react to her speech. She can't quite pronounce her Rs and some other letters correctly.
Don't be afraid to get your child the help they need! The earlier, the better. Way to go Lynn for helping Sean this early!

Thank you ladies. He's so excited about the bus! Oh, and they had a birthday party today that they let him sit in on, so he'll probably be thinking he can get cupcakes everyday!
Lena, I have to say, my pride got the best of me up until early this year. My DH kept telling me to call the State of NJ, because until they're 3 years-old they have a free early intervention program. But I didn't do it. I kept saying, he'll grow out of it. It was when the private preschool teacher said something to me, that I finally did something about it. Then someone said, "other kids are going to make fun of him" and that was it for me. No one's going to make fun of my kid! I've noticed lately that other kids his age are starting to say they can't understand him. And this was so silly on my part, because this is such a simple fix! It'll take just a year or two and he'll be "normal"...about as normal as a McG can be! hee hee
