Title: Wow

Honey - June 3, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
My hubby really shocked me today....he bought a minivan off his parents without consulting with me! He has NEVER done anything that impulsive before! It's a 1993 Dodge Caravan LE. Same make as the one we have now, except the one we have now is an '88. Just not sure of the pricing...

I'm just shocked!

andiesmama - June 3, 2006 10:24 PM (GMT)
That would TOTALLY shock me, too.....and to be honest, tick me off a little bit....I mean, had you guys even discussed buying another one or was this a shot outta the blue?

Didja pull out the :lena:????

clayman - June 3, 2006 10:51 PM (GMT)
There are issues on which we skip discussion. But since the furniture fiasco six years ago, we agree to discuss major purchases.

She went to a furniture store to buy a kitchen table on which we agreed when we bought the new house. Gallery Furniture guarantees same day delivery - which means it'll be delivered sometime between when you bought it and before they open the next day at 10:00 am. They're known to arrive at 3:30 am and install your new HDTV and surround-sound system.

So, I was assigned to wait at the house for the furniture to be delivered. All I had was a boom-box and a lawn chair. Nowhere to lay my head. I had pizza delivered about 10:00pm. They showed up about 11:30 and started unloading. First was the kitchen table. Then a bedroom set for Nichole. "Hey, this ain't our stuff," I said. They showed me the ticket. There was my wife's signature with over $1k in extra purchases. I was livid.

As soon as they left, I drove back to our apartment and began unloading on her. This was before I was diagnosed and was taking meds for my anger issues. I screamed and punched a hole in the wall. At least let me help her pick this stuff out. I mean, the furniture wasn't bad, and the price was decent (and the name is Ashley!), but just let me know. She gets so ticked at me when I don't do that!

Since then, she consults me before any major purchase, and I do the same with her.

oooh, I think I'd be mad too. I mean, a deal's a deal and I understand that. But it's not like it had to be decided right then and there, since it's his parents, right?

And at the same time, I'm sure it was a nice surprise.

Honey - June 4, 2006 12:22 AM (GMT)
Actually, I'm pleasantly surprised. He's buying off his father so it'll be pretty cheap. I can live with cheap. B)

You are a good wife!

I think I would have played being annoyed until he made it up to me! hee hee :eyebrows:

JK! :P

Honey - June 4, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, under normal circumstances I might've played around and annoyed him, but alot of my energy has been into the recent strike and I've been thoroughly annoyed with THAT....but...we went to see it today and it's dirty! The back seat is ripped and all the seats are dirty. It would take a good shampooing to get it clean....I dunno....apparently it "runs good". Huh. :dunno:

mdolls68 - August 7, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
I was thinking about this and some of the things my husband has pulled on me. We've both done some similar things in different areas.

What I think of is the area of submission and how God works. It's not so much as my husband buying something big without my knowledge or permission, rather God was working in my heart and actions in the area of submission.

As I submitted my will and feelings to God, He really has blessed my marriage immensely. My husband expected an angry wife, but instead, he got a wife that loved him regardless, that shocked him. In turn, this softened his heart and actions, making him even more open and communicative towards me and vice versa. This created a happier, more peaceful environment in which to raise our children and have a more united marriage.

It took a lot of restraint initially. But, what this led to is me focusing more on God to meet my needs and to trust that God has everything under control. I rest assured that as I seek God in my marriage and give all my concerns to Him, that He watches over my marriage. Even something that seems like a stupid choice, I know that God is working.

Submission was not something I was strong in, but over the past year, it has been considerably strengthened. Our marriage has needed this strength because we have come against some pretty tough stuff. This also has developed a greater trust between my husband and me.

God gives grace to weather any storm. I love my husband and I know he would never do anything to really harm our marriage. If he makes a bad choice, so be it. I will still love him and no less. God loves us no matter what, so why would I think I'm better than God? I'm sure I make my fair share of poor choices.....

God gives grace and love.

 wow! i'd be shocked too!!!! first of all, i'd be shocked that andy could scrounge up enough moolah to even purchase a van....even if it was a cheap one from his parents!LOL second, i can't imagine him just going out and doing that w/o talking about it first. that would be totally out of his character......mostly because andy is huge on seeking approval for every decision he makes!!LOL

has your hubs ever done something like this before??? hope it's not a mid-life crisis coming on!! :tease:

Honey - August 7, 2006 08:21 PM (GMT)
We now have that van on the road! Hubby's parents were a huge help with getting it safetied and a new engine in it. :o They've been awesome. Yes, we did have $$ for it from our income tax. We've been very blessed to get a huge return. He paid part of it off over the weekend.

Yep, God's blessed us abundantly! B)

Chitty, I HOPE this isn't a mid-life crisis thing!

ChittyBang6 - August 7, 2006 08:32 PM (GMT)
 GLAD TO HEAR IT IS ALL WORKING OUT FOR THE BEST. I'M GLAD TO HEAR YOUR ATTITUDE IS A POSITIVE ONE TOO. SOME PEEPS PROBABLY WOULDN'T FOCUS ON THE GOOD THINGS LIKE YOU SEEM TO BE. I'M PROUD OF YOU FOR THAT. SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS....A HUGE BLESSING :amen: :D

kykate - August 8, 2006 04:58 AM (GMT)
