Title: Creeps me out!!

andiesmama - June 1, 2006 01:58 PM (GMT)
So I was sucked into watching a "marathon" of this show called Ghost Hunters on the SciFi channel yesterday. You know, they go to various places to investigate "paranormal" sightings/feelings whatever. But they try to DEBUNK what the people are saying rather than prove everything they experience IS "paranormal".

That said, for the most part they really didn't experience much. BUT there were some instances where they DID experience "something" AND got it recorded on camera. One example: in a lighthouse in Florida, they said they saw a shadow peering over the railings at them. Took a look at the video of it and sure enough, I saw that shadow! Another sighting was in the basement of a "haunted" house, they caught a shadow creeping behind a pool table where nobody could fit behind. (The camera was by itself in the basement, nobody was there running it.)
Another one that really creeped me out was in the hotel that inspired Stephen King's novel "The Shining"....the guy set up a camera in his room while he was sleeping at night. The closet door was broken, they couldn't get it to shut/stay shut/or even latch. All of a sudden on camera, the closet door swung shut and it could be heard latching shut!! The guy woke right up & took the camera over to the closet, opened the door and of course nothing/nobody was inside. He tried to shut it & latch it again and couldn't do it.

They also caught "voices" on tape. You know, like in that movie "White Noise" where supposedly paranormal voices can be caught on tape? Most I couldn't make out until the investigators said what THEY thought the voices were saying, then of course I was able to make it out...power of suggestion. However one time I heard the voices say something even before the investigators mentioned what it was....and what they heard was exactly what I heard! (it was "They don't want us here")

Like I said....it was all just creeping me out. BUT the point of this whole rambling thread is this:

In all of the cases I watched where the investigators felt they "found something", they said "it" didn't feel malevolent (sp?), that the people should just learn how to live with the entities/spirits and co-habitate in peace with them.

Do you think that's true? I personally believe any spirits that one would experience would be evil, even if it started out as not having that "feeling". Is something like this just Satan's way of pulling people towards his side? What about all the shadows they caught on tape? Are ALL instances like that able to be explained away by logical means? Or is it possible that spirits could be caught on tape like that?

I had alot of time to think about this as my mind was racing last night, keeping me awake....

Honey - June 1, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
Wow. My friend had some "spirit" problems a while back. Not sure if she still has that problem, haven't gotten around to talking about it yet. One night she got up to go to the bathroom and the basement door was open. It is ALWAYS shut and everyone else was asleep! Figure that out! Another time, things would fall off a perfectly straight and level shelf. When they rearranged furniture, "something" would get upset....all this raises the hair on my neck, for sure! Deb! What were you THINKING! Watching something THAT freaky?!! I woulda been up all night had I seen something like that!

andiesmama - June 1, 2006 04:21 PM (GMT)
yeah, I don't know what I was thinking....I just got sucked in....

Oh, your shelf story made me remember another one they showed that TOTALLY freaked me out...

In an attic of some old coast guard station that was supposedly haunted....they had set up the video camera, then one of the investigators was sitting in a chair, waiting around I guess for something to happen. Anyways, he said it was getting "too hot" in there, so he left...the camera was still running....about 30 seconds after he left, the chair he was sitting in was shoved hard, probably about a foot!!

Shoved by who? Nobody was there, just the chair & the video camera....

Honey - June 1, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
*SHIVERS* I recall a story about an old courthouse and it had appartments upstairs. A couple had committed suicide in that building and years later when folks were cleaning the courthouse, the vacuum cleaner would turn off by itself. One time, the person went for a break and saw his lunch pail and chair was moved. He was alone. So when he went back to vacuuming, it kept turning off so he finally hollered that he'll be done soon so to knock it off so he can leave he/she alone in peace! Huh, it worked. He finished his job in peace.

Well, I talked to my friend and she gave me a whole bunch of stories about this creepy thing in her house! She's had the house blessed by her bil who's a minister even! I told her to install a camera up in a corner where most of the action happens. She says that's a great idea and she may even be able to talk her hubby into doing it. Apparently, they go for a few weeks of "quietness", then something happens....told her I woulda hightailed it long ago!

andiesmama - June 1, 2006 07:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm sorry but I don't care how "nice" or "gentle" the entities seem.....IMO it's nothing GOOD, yannow?

Honey - June 1, 2006 07:26 PM (GMT)
I find her stories interesting....IMO, better her than me! She's got a strong faith in God and she believes that He's protecting them. But one story she told me got me really thinking. She doesn't want just anyone to know, so I won't post it. It's just downright freaky!

LynnMcG - June 1, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
I used to hate to be in my mom's house. They had all sorts of creepy things happen.

You could be upstairs in the kitchen and hear a bunch of voices downstairs (no one else at home) and when you got to the top of the stairs, the voices would stop. The kitchen cabinet doors opened and closed once. Stuff would disappear and show up somewhere else. You could see dark figures in just about every room of the house. Just a couple of months ago my mom saw the figure of a woman standing at the foot of her bed, watching her sleep. OH I could go on and on.

They're demons. It's cut and dry for me. Cast them out and let it be done!

Lynn, you couldn't be more right.

I'm a skeptic about things spiritual - or at least I used to be. Several things have happened in the last ten years the make me think otherwise.

At my MIL's house, where Kerense grew up, they have "Charlie". He's the 'non-malevolent' spirit that occasionally wanders the house. Here's why I believe he's there: Kerense's dog would walk in the room, be at perfect peace, then suddenly stand up and bark at the wall. Pepper only ever did that inside that house. She didn't do it at my apartment or in our house here in Houston.
One night, Kerense asked this spirit who he was. The spirit did not answer, but he was no longer 'non-malevolent'. He terrorized the people in that house with nightmares for a while before leaving, myself included. I've never had the vivid dreams about pure evil as I did in that house.

In recent months, I've found that when we're all having a crappy day, I can call on Jesus to cast the demons and evil spirits out of the house (or car or hotel room...) and suddenly everybody's having a good time. They don't even have to know I did it. Kids turn from screaming and hollering into laughing.

I think there's more at work here than people really want to admit. And to say that a shadowy 'spirit' is not malevolent is to be tricked. It's like the owner of the vicious rottweiler saying, "He's not a bad dog, he just needs lovins." Angels of light don't hide in the shadows; angels of darkness do. Angels of light don't have to stoop to theatrics to show their presence; angels of darkness just might think it's funny.

"In the name of Jesus, I command all demons, evil spirits and Satan himself to leave my house, my car, my property and my pets." Repeat it. You will see a difference.

My friend has been praying for her house, property and her family. Has had the house blessed by an official minister...what more can she do? I'd REALLY like to know because I'll just say that she told me 2 things yesterday that scared bejeebies outta me. One was that in 2 in the morning she heard a bang in the kitchen. (For some reason only SHE hears these things...) she got up to see if it was one of the kids, and found a Christmas box in the middle of her kitchen! This happened last summer. The box hadn't even BEEN in the house. The other thing that majorly flashed red flags was one day last summer, her youngest son was suddenly "hit". He'd been in his bedroom, his brother in the hallway and everyone was doing their own quiet thing when the youngest came into the hallway and smacked his brother! He asked what that was for and the youngest said, it was for hitting HIM....so then my friend came in to settle things and she said that her older son was not lying, he never hit the younger, but SOMEbody did! So she sat on the rocker with him, worried.

Now I know from just hearing my friend's stories that this is something very creepy. How do you get rid of it?

Last night I was stupid and watched Supernatural with Abe. Man, I could not sleep! Finally I sang song after song of God's love in my head until I finally relaxed, even smiled and I fell asleep. All this spirit talk can creep me out for a week!

clayman - June 2, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
I can find out. I know someone who specializes in this. It's hard to find someone who's serious about it that isn't a little bit whacked out. At my church, I mentioned demons to people and most of them rolled their eyes. Some said (stock church of Christ answer), "Spirits aren't active like they were in Christ's day."

I'll mention this to her and see what she says. When I spoke to her of my bipolar issue, and how I felt it was demonically inspired, she spoke to me for an hour of cleansing the house and prayers of deliverance. It sounded weird, but I've found that it works.

We'll be praying for your friend. God will work a miracle in her life.

Oh - and the spirit world doesn't recognize human 'officiality'. I think sincerity and walk with God do a lot more than titles.

Honey - June 2, 2006 10:59 AM (GMT)
My mil had some creepy experiences too. She found that an open Bible on the table helped. There were heavy footsteps in the basement that would come upstairs. Well, one day, she heard the steps again and sat real quiet and left her Bible open by the table at the top of the steps. She never had a problem since.

It would be interesting to know. I know that demons fear the truth of God. Demons are spawned of lies so the truth and light are frightening. It says that somewhere in the Bible...

As a protestant you might think this is silly, but as Orthodox Christians, and Catholics too, I suppose, we believe that demons flee from the sign of cross. That is why we cross ourselves. We sometimes pray blessings over each room in our house while making a cross in the room. (We Orthodox place our thumb index and middle fingers together-representing the trinity and the other two fingers that are folded back toward the palm represent the dual natures of Christ. When we cross ouselves, it is in reverse to the way the catholics do it. We go head stomach right shoulder then left)

Sometimes we will make the sign of the cross over our beds and over our children. Since demons flee the cross, doesn't it make sense to rely on the cross along with prayer to hopefully keep evil influences at bay?

I know it might feel like a wierd thing to do at first, but it can't hurt........There is power in that Cross...

andiesmama - June 2, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
When Andie's having bad nightmares, I'll do the sign of the cross over her in bed, I'll also do it on her bedroom door....dunno if it really works or not, but she seems to sleep much more peacefully afterwards....:dunno:

It was really weird, at first, to command the demons to leave. Especially if there were others within earshot. But I got used to it, and now I pray that whenever and wherever I feel it necessary.

This weekend (Sunday evening) we're going to have a house-blessing. We have olive oil that we will bless in accordance with scriptures. We will annoint every room, every window and every door with the oil. We will pray over over annointing that it be protected from evil. I've been working on an 'order of worship' for this blessing. Need to get the scriptures ready so I'm not wasting time flipping through 66 books trying to find something appropriate. :)

Honey - June 2, 2006 06:21 PM (GMT)
I talked to my friend again today and she says that they have crucifixes, crosses, Bible verses on the walls everywhere, open Bible in each room....still. Things happen. :dunno:

According to history, they are also on ancient Indian land. Things really started to happened when they had a modular home added to the land and they added on a basement/extension to the house. She'd always wanted it moved over to the side by at least 20 ft....never knew why, just a gut feeling I suppose. Maybe they disturbed burial grounds? :dunno:

LynnMcG - June 2, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
I annoint the doors and windows with holy oil. I pray a little prayer, then place an oil cross at the top of each window, door, and doorway.

My DH and I have had a great deal of experience in dealing with demons in our homes. It seems our daughter has also been blessed with spiritual discernment, as they began to seek her out around the age of 4. We have always stood on the word of God, and cast them out in the name of Jesus. This has always worked. I think it has everything to do with the fact that we own this power, and we know it. We have this ability through the blood of the lamb. We are protected, washed clean, and as joint heirs in Christ, we have the power through him.

andiesmama - June 3, 2006 01:45 AM (GMT)
Lynn....2 questions:

1) How often do you do the anointing?
2) How did you realize your daughter was experiencing these things? Did she come out & tell you? Nightmares?

I used to just pray over each room as I felt the need. Sometimes I feel that something is sort of creeping in on us and I stop it right then. The oil annointing is kind of new for me. Again, just do it as often as you feel necessary. I think we have issues more often than the "normal" family due to my background in the occult and my gift of spiritual discernment.

As far as Sarah is concerned, she used to tell me she heard someone calling her name when she was alone in her room. Last year she saw the bathroom step stool move by itself too. I pray over her all the time and when it happens I lead her in prayer. She has a spritual gift and will learn how to manage and use it one day. For now, I think the enemy messes with her on occassion as he does with me. Fortunately, she's more empowered than I was at her age so I think she'll manage much better than I ever did.

Well, that's his goal. One way or another....been like that since the beginning of time. Satan's such a jerk! :lena:

LynnMcG - June 3, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
Ahh, but it's not scary for us, right? We are the righteousness in Jesus Christ. Satan's feeble, foolish attempts to frighten us into his submission are absurd once we gain a hold of who we are in Christ.

Honey - June 3, 2006 07:26 PM (GMT)
Good point, Lynn! Yanno, when we're singing songs of God's love and it helps us to grow strong and confident in Him, that's when satan goes running with his tail between his legs! :D

I know I shouldn't...but this me going. I've been watching "A Haunting" marathon on Discovery this afternoon.

Now when I watch these shows I'm never surprised at what I see. What does surprise me, however, is the stupidity of some people and how they manage these problems. Take the episode I'm watching now...The family is having these weird haunting incidents and what do they do? Open the door for the stupid things! They break out the Ouija board.

OK, stupididty is kind of harsh...I guess it's just ignorance.

clayman - June 3, 2006 09:44 PM (GMT)
Kerense thinks it was a Ouija board that invited Charley into her house so many years ago.

We've tried to keep that stuff out of our house as much as possible. But where do you draw the line?

LynnMcG - June 3, 2006 09:47 PM (GMT)
Well, eliminating the Ouija board is a good start. They're just a way to open up the door. Demons are like bullies. They need an audience to work with. If they don't have an audience, it's pointless to them. They'll just move on to the next willing soul.

andiesmama - June 3, 2006 10:30 PM (GMT)
Ouija boards.....my sister had one when we were both still living at home. I opened the box one time & felt so weird that I immediately closed it...

She told me one time her & her friends were using it in our basement, "supposedly" called on my recently deceased grandmother....she said the candles blew out & they started hearing knocks....as well as the pointer going crazy.

I don't know if I beleive it or not, but I DO know that I always felt strange in our basement after that....

Thanks alot, sis!! :lena: :smack:

LynnMcG - June 3, 2006 11:43 PM (GMT)
We were using one in my college dorm and stuff starting fallling off the walls. The "spirit" threatened to kill one of the guys in the room. We heard this weird sound coming out of the quad and it got louder and faster, saying the same unintelligble sounds over and over again until it was deafening. Then it stopped. No one heard it but the people in our room.

It was so damn scary.

Honey - June 4, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
My friend was invited to play one of those boards with a group of friends. She always wore a cross necklace back then. Well, they were all set in a circle and ready to play when the "thing" wouldn't work! They tried to figure out what the "problem" was and saw that my friend had on her cross necklace. They told her to take it off or it wouldn't work. By this time she realized the seriousness of the game and her own gut feeling was telling her it was wrong, so she left and lost all those so-called "friends" just because she wore her cross necklace.

clayman - June 12, 2006 03:03 PM (GMT)
OK - here's something creepy.

Last night, I couldn't get to sleep. I was reading my bible till about 11:30. Kerense was asleep on the couch 'cuz our room's so hot. The girls were sleeping on a pallet in their room (camping out over the weekend).

Finally about 1:00 I fell into a restless sleep. I kept having weird dreams. Kerense came to bed at 3:00 - both kids were crying from nightmares. At 3:30, Kerense woke up 'cuz the bed was shaking. She started to pray for the evil to leave us, and it eventually did. I woke up at 4:00, unable to sleep (I'm pretty blind to the spiritual world. I think most of us are). I fixed Kerense's lunch and came back to bed. I was still awake at 5:30 when Kerense left for work - the dreams still haunting me.

One dream involved my high-school sweetheart with whom I had once established contact. I dreamed that her husband left her and the kids because of her deep depression. But, in order for her to protect herself (she lives in Houston, after all!), he bought her a gun. That dream was bad enough it woke me up.

We are going to go through the house today and bless it. We were going to do it a few weeks back, but kept forgetting. Now the olive oil we bought specifically for this purpose is in the back of the pantry - forgotten. Need to dig it out, and bless this house.

andiesmama - June 12, 2006 05:27 PM (GMT)
I think I'm going to do that anointing thing (& copy Clay's words) at the very LEAST in Andie's room....she ALWAYS wakes up twice (or more) a night with nightmares.... :(

andiesmama - June 13, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
 wow.....so I said in my last post that I was going to try the anointing thing & using Clay's words so Andie could MAYBE have a good night's sleep without nightmares....

We (Ty & I) talked to her before bed, said she didn't have to be scared if she woke up during the night, God keeps us safe and she just needed to snuggle down with her "friends" (read: stuffed animals which number in the thousands... ) & go back to sleep.

Before I went to bed, I checked on her & tucked her in...after I closed her door I made a cross on the door jam (not in olive oil, didn't have any) and said something to the effect of "In the name of God I rebuke any evil spirits, entities, and satan himself to leave this room of God's child and our house."

NO bad dreams last night, she slept through the entire night without waking up for the first time since I can remember.... :amen:

LynnMcG - June 13, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
Debby, if you don't have olive oil, just use what you have...of course I can't understand how you feed your family without olive oil, but that's just the Italian in me. :)

Seriously, pour a small amount of oil in a bowl and pray over it. Then go from room to room and pray at each door and window. Do it with Andie if you want. She'll probably get bored after the first couple of rooms, but it helps to teach her about prayer.

Also, talk to her about God's favor. Did you read Joel Osteen's book? It's a great way to gain an understanding of our favor with God and man. It teaches you to lay hold of your promises in God and live that abundant life Christ promises!

Stringaling - June 14, 2006 11:21 AM (GMT)
Cooking oil just doesn't have the same qualities that oil that has been blessed by a TRUE man of God does...you can slather your whoel house with any kind of oil you want, but unless it has been properly blessed , you are just going to end up with an oily mess...

No offense intended, but Joel Osteen's theological theories just seem so .....plastic to me.... That and his hair--what is up with that do?
