Title: The housing market in your neighborhood

OK, let's do an experiment. One of the houses we're looking at is listed for $269,00. We need to look at about 6 or 8 houses in our town listed for about the same amount so we know what that much money is supposed to buy.

But I'm curious...what can you buy in your area for that much money.

If you have a few minutes, could you do a search in Realtor.com in your area for a single-family home in the $250,000 - $275,000 range and then post the link to one?

I'll start:

Hamburg, NJ

Mostly townhomes and condominiums...

Mississauga, ON

Interesting...

Here's the building that I live in, but it's not my apt that's being sold. This is for someone else that's selling in my building.

I can't find anything that expensive near where we live.

That's neat Redguard, thanks.

OK, let's try a little cheaper...How about $150,000 - 180,000?

Apparently there's hardly anything for sale near us. I did find this house though:

Brand new house built in 2006, 2150sf, 3 bed 2 bath, 2 car garage, central heat and air on 2 acres of land for $195,000.

Here's our list for Naples. Most are NOT in a neighborhood that you'd want to live in, tho.... I didn't include condos, tho....just single family homes.

$250,000 to $275,000

$150,000 to $225,000

Here's Houston's list!

WOAH, those would list for anywhere from $500-800K in our area.

Interesting that this thread is up right now....

Eight years ago we bought our brand new 2.5 acre/1300 sq footer for $125K....

We just had an offer for $312K....

Wifey has her eye on a 2.5 acre/2100 sq foot, brand new job for $450K...(borders Forest Service)

I'll have to refinance $220K for us to get it....

Puts me in some MAJOR debt.....and stress, but hey, anything to keep wifey happy.

(Claybro, are you available for some more therapy?)

Always available for you, goodbro!

(let's see - $200/hr * 14 hrs so far + whatever happens next...)
Hey - when you gonna pay your bill? :rolf:

$220k is twice what I paid for my house. 'Course, I'm sitting on 1/4 acre with 3000 sq.ft.

A lot of these are near my neighborhood, I live in the poor part of St. Charles.

$250K-$275K

$150K-$175K

Amy, I think your cost of living is pretty close to mine.
