Title: Cheesy or blasphemous?
Description: Talking Bible Dolls.....

A great NEW toy for any child. Each Jesus, Moses, or Queen Esther doll gives actual scripture verses to introduce children of all ages to the wisdom of the Bible.

These 12 inch dolls are easily activated by squeezing their red hearts.

That's a tough one. We want our children to learn and love the scriptures, but I lean toward the blasphemous side of this I think. These dolls are representing holy people who played very important roles in our history. These dolls, or effigies, will most likely end up at the bottom of a toybox or under a bed with some dirty shoes. I think it shows disrespect to these holy people and even our Savior Himself to turn them and their memory into a child's plaything to be tossed aside when a new toy comes for birthdays and Christmas..The idea and intent in the creation of these dolls is well meaning, however, the full extent of the reality of their actual use and treament is obviously not thought out or contemplated on a deeper more spiritual level. We cannot treat our great role models and Saints with the same respect shown to Barbie.

I'd say both. Cheesily blasphemous. I wouldn't get one.

Back in the 70's, Ideal Toys scuttled an idea for a Jesus doll. The reason - exactly what String mentioned above. Parents didn't want their kids dragging around a naked Jesus, dunking Him in the toilet, etc.

I don't think they're blasphemous in their own right, but their final use may turn out to be so.

I don't have any problem with figures for Bible characters other than Jesus.

Maybe slightly cheezy, for us adults. But I wouldn't think it to be blasphemous. The exception, of course, being the Jesus doll.

Imagine having a David action figure that went around kicking everyone's butt, and stealing peoples' wives! How cool is THAT?!?!

:rolf: David doll?

I don't know what to think. I like that it makes it more real to kids. I think it's hard for a child to understand that everything in the bible actually happened. And now that I'm thinking about it...we have at least 3 Noah's ark play sets so why not bible-quoting dolls?

Not only that...

We also have talking vegetables who dress up like various Bible characters on tv, and re-inact different stories from the Bible.

I was thinking of that too.

Sounds like an idea for an expose: Veggie Tales - Biblically sound or blasphemy - you decide!

Forget it. The bottom line, does it edify God? Is it something He would find pleasing?
