When I first started reading the Bible, my favorite passage was from Matthew 6, how God clothed the Lilies of the Valley. I was in need and God was providing for my needs in what I consider to be a miraculous way.
Then I was considering God's grace. I read the passage from Romans 8 that says, "There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus" and that was my favorite.
Then I was reflecting upon my life and all the paths I'd been down. I read Ecclesiastes - the whole book. That was my favorite.
Then I was agonizing over everything that was going wrong in my life. I read Job - the whole book. It was my favorite.
What have I learned? The more I read of the Bible, the more favorite passages I have. Yeah, there are some dry parts, like when they are counting the people of Israel. And the details of the law are really boring. But there are gems throughout the entire Bible, and I am at a loss to really detail which is my favorite.
Consider the passage where Solomon asks God for wisdom - and it's granted. That inspires me to pray daily for wisdom. Or, how about when Elisha asks for a double portion of Elijah's spirit? I pray daily for faith enough to handle all the stuff Satan throws at me. And don't forget about being co-heirs of the Kingdom with Christ!
Yes, the Bible is full of wonderful passages. What's my favorite? How am I feeling today? At this moment (1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 3, 2006), it's the one about not being tried beyond what we can handle with God's help.
And that's proof that His word is alive.
