I am not a good eater. I have been trying to change that, mostly because I want to be a good example for my daughters.
I'm one of the lucky ones. I can eat whatever I want and gain very little. I'm about 6 feet tall and have never weighed more than 155 pounds. I'm between 145 and 150 at the moment.
I've never eaten many vegetables and few fruits. My diet has consisted mostly of carbohydrates.
Earlier this week I began a self-imposed goal of eating at least one serving of fruits and vegetables each day. I have done pretty well for the first three days, though I did pass on the broccoli with my steak at Applebee's on Monday night.
I'd like to say that I hate you, but that wouldn't be very Christlike, would it?
Good that you realize your eating habits could use improvement. It takes time to retrain your taste buds. Keep at it. It'll come.
Heh, you sound like my hubby's build. He eats anything he pleases too and does not gain an ounce!
But way to go! It's never too late to eat healthy.
Until I was about 30, I was the same way. Eat (and drink!) to my heart's content and stay at about 180. In the last ten years, I've put on 70 pounds. Yeah, it needs to come off, but when you get old (40 is old? On this forum it is!), it gets hard to change your habits.
Yeah, it's best to change when you're young. Otherwise the doctor will lay down the law. "Keep eating cheese for an entree and you'll have another kidneystone!"
There are good and bad advantages to being genetically not gaining much weight.
Eventually, I do think bad habits do catch up to us.
I was sharing with one of my trainers that if I eat too much grains, it will cause me to gain bodyfat and weight. Whatever week that I do this, I KNOW by the results how my diet has been. My body won't even tolerate a cup of rice. It will show up in the form of fat on my body.
Is that a curse? No, it forces me to find other alternatives to eating, which are healthier. Probably what I consume in carbs in a week, most people consume in a meal or a snack.
It's taken time, but I no longer enjoy the taste of a good pasta dish, or breads. I do still like rice, so that will take some time to undo.
