Title: I Have Paypal!

Redguard - April 22, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
I've decided to shed my ludite status and get a PayPal account. I'm trying to sell some extra printer cartridges on eBay, so I finally made the plunge.

My PayPal account is empty though. :(

It takes so long to transfer money from a bank account into a PayPal account. 6-8 days? Madness!

If it's done via instant transfer it goes into your PayPal account uh, instantly  If someone is sending you a check through PayPal it takes a few days to clear.

So, is it mostly clothing stuff that you've sold?

6-8 days? I don't member anythin like that. But I also haven't fooled wit it in a good long while. But sumthin I wanted to mention that I haven't noticed mentioned is you need to specify what type of pay pal you accept in your auction, wether bank to bank only er includin credit cards, if you accept credit cards, you end up havin to pay sumthin like 3% I believe. I'm to cheap to pay that so we refused a bunch of folks payments if they couldn't read the auction hehe It's up to you of course, but jes member that you'll havta pay to git your money.

I cain't recall Sarah actually havin ever sold any clothes off hand, but she primarily buys em, I buy pc equipment, an we've sold jes a bunch of ... junk hehe an she's got a list long as er arm of stuff she needs to auction off yet to.

It's because I'm a "Can-yuck". :(

3-4 days to transfer from a U.S. bank account.
6-8 days for a Canadian account.

It took me like 3 days just to verify my account and make it useable. It's a good thing I wasn't in a rush to buy anything.

So NOW I understand what you were talking about here.

I just sold some printer ink on eBay and the winning bidder sent me a PayPal credit card payment.

Suddenly, PayPal sends me an email telling me that I'm not allowed to receive credit card PayPal payments unless I upgrade to a Premium account!!!

WHAT?!?!?!??!!?!?

And that if I upgrade to that account, I have to pay 2.9% of the amount coming in, plus $0.55 Canadian.

I feel deceived. I'm looking over the account selection process and I don't believe that they were very forthcoming with making this bit of information very clear at the time.

Granted, the fee only came up to $1.10 out of a sale value of $27.50, but I think that they could've been a bit more clear with making this known to the user BEFORE HAND.

Now I'm trying to go back to a Personal Account, but I can't find the screen that allows me to do that. Am I trapped with having a Premium account forever now? These people are so slick! And now I'm wondering, am I allowed to receive debit/bank account PayPal payments on Personal accounts? Or are those restricted too?

And what if someone wants to send me a friendly $1 payment using pure PayPal money? Do I have to pay 2.9% + $0.55 on that too?

:bored:

I was THIS close to getting Paypal the other day. Hubby comes over and asks, "Whatcha doin'?" I'm like, "Uh, nothin' honey!" He says NO way.

Paranoid freak. :smack:

I've nt sold anything on ebay, but I have on half.com. I am not sure about the premium account thing. I'll have to check nto that. Isn't there a way that you can specify in your listing that you will only accept certain forms of payment? And does that include only checks through paypal instead of credit cards? I've heard that ebay's fee policies are not good and really stick it to you, and now with the paypal thing coming up...I'm gonna have to do some reading up on these things before I list anything on eBay...

Well, I spent some time looking through the FAQ.

I guess other people have brought up the issue, so I found this resolution.

You're allowed to have a maximum of 2 PayPal accounts. One can be personal, and one can be Premium/Business. You can use the personal one to get little tidbits of PayPal money, like if you design a webpage for someone and they wanna pay you $2 for it. And then you can use the Premium/Business account for eBay and other online transactions.

So I guess that's what I'll do.

I've had a business account for a couple of years. I pay a percentage of the sale. But I just build that cost into my auction price. That way I know I'm covered.

Oh, one more thing...

Redguard, did you get an debit/credit card with your account? I don't know if this will help but I have a free debit/credit card with my business account (which I also earn interest on for any balance I keep in there) and I can use the debit/credit card for purchases at any store or I can just withdraw the cash at my bank's ATM.

Premium account? Do I have a premium account? I'd better go look. I just sold a wedding dress on ebay.

We have always just kept a personal account and specified in our auctions that we do not take credit cards through PayPal. You still get people that don't read the auction properly but they have always been understanding when I've kicked back their payment and pointed out their error.
