Title: I Did It!

Honey - April 19, 2006 07:58 PM (GMT)
I bought me a belly dancing book! The author is Dolphina. It has step by step diagrams. Now to go dig for some music and put it into action! :shakeit: But I did it! Also bought a hip wrap with the dangle thingies that tickle your legs...hehe.

So, who's next? Hmm? :hammock:

Here's the website: http://www.goddessworkout.com/

I ignore the "goddess" part, tho. I just want to learn the steps and do the workout.

andiesmama - April 19, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
 lemme know how it goes....and how ABE likes it...:eyebrows:

Um...no...don't letus know...we don't wanna know.... :boo:

 Abe's already looking forward to the "action". I say he can wait until I get some practicing in at least! He has to buy me a hula hoop so that should help with a warm up!

LynnMcG - April 20, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
I still want to know how you're going to learn from a book. I would think you'd need the video to see her do it.

Let me know how it works.

Honey - April 20, 2006 06:05 PM (GMT)
See, Lynn. The book has diagrams, yanno, fancy lil pictures, with instructions and arrows and such....it's not that hard, really. I think a video would be helpful, too. But I can't find any belly dancing videos! :bored: There's Carmen Electra's Striptease Aerobics...but that's not what I want.

This book also has stretching charts. Did you know that belly dancing is easier on toning your tummy rather than doing crunches? I thought, WOW! That is so true! You don't strain so many muscles. I've been making it a habit to walk around and sucking in my stomach which also helps tone the muscles....plus, I've done a tonne of walking this week! :D I'm feeling it already. I also like hip hugger pants...those help, too.

LynnMcG - April 20, 2006 06:26 PM (GMT)
Why thank you for that very clear explanation! Diagrams! Who would of thunk it?

I found tons of belly dancing DVDs on Blockbuster.com and Netflix. I saw those twin sisters (Veena and Neena) on VH1 once. They're DVDs are available on Amazon or Ebay. Discover Bellydance

Check out this list on Amazon too: Some chick's bellydance wish list...

I'm just gonna wait until Lena gets herself down here to Florida and have her teach me in person....by the time she gets here, she should be an EXPERT by then... B) :tease:

Honey - April 20, 2006 09:10 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Deb. I'll teach you to hula, too! :D

Honey - April 24, 2006 12:00 AM (GMT)
Hey, try doing a figure 8 with your hips for a while. I sure felt abdominal muscles like I hadn't felt before! :o

Let me know what you feel!

andiesmama - April 24, 2006 01:29 AM (GMT)
 I just tried it & I think I threw out my back...

We need a new mattress. My back is killing me! This never used to happen to me. I'm too stiff to even do a figure 8! I think I'll go ride my bike and loosen up, then try it again. Maybe we can use these things for out little fitness weekly challenges!

That's a good idea, Lynn....I've been trying to think of something different to do....

Yeah, that could work. Why didn't I think of that?

andiesmama - April 24, 2006 09:02 PM (GMT)
Ok Lena....just a heads up then, next week we'll do these hip swivel thingies for our exercise challenge....let me know what a good goal would be for us to get our daily points.

PM me with some more, when you get a chance, and I'll keep a list...

LynnMcG - April 24, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
Lunges are a good extra exercise to do too. I try to do a couple of sets all over the house throughout the day. Hate 'em, but they work great.

andiesmama - April 24, 2006 11:44 PM (GMT)
lunges = :sick:

I HATE those!! But you're right, they work great! That's another good one, I'll make that a weekly challenge as well...

Honey - April 24, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
I've never done a lunge before....

LynnMcG - April 25, 2006 12:50 PM (GMT)
They're great for your butt.

andiesmama - April 25, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
I'll try to google & find a "how-to"....I can't think of a good way to explain how to do them.... :bored:

Exercise Advice: This is the same exercise as the barbell lunges, except you are now using dumbbells. Stand up straight and hold a dumbbell in each hand, letting the dumbbells hang down at your sides. Be sure that you have enough room to perform this exercise. Begin by striding forward with one leg to execute a regular lunge while keeping the other leg set in place. Be sure to really stride forward so that you get a great stretch. Bring that leg back to the start position and repeat with the opposite leg.

Ya mean sorta like that, Deb? B)

:wall: aaahhh....my nightmare!!

Yep, that's it....and yes, that's EXACTLY how I look when I do 'em...

Oh! The image of DEB exercising! Oh man! :wall: Get it OUT!!! :P

Seriously, Deb, if you look exactly like that, then you're doing a good thing for your butt!

You don't wanna see me trying to do MY BDing! Especially with holding the book open and trying to memorize the instructions! Amazingly, Abe is more than willing to go and get me a DVD set that I found...

I've always thought that it would be fun to learn Belly dance. Really for ages I have...But I woud be too shy to do it in front of anyone, even my husband. And as for those costumes..I would have to have one that covered the stomach--EEK!

Yeah, like you'd have to twist your husband's arm to get you a DVD to show you how to improve your belly dancing. Has he suggested strip-areobics yet? Heard that was great foreplay.

Honey - May 9, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
I've been looking at Carmen Electra's Striptease Aerobics....with the weather warming up, I just might get it and show Abe how it's done! :eyebrows:
