Tell me about them, and why I should or should not read them.

I'm not currently reading any, but I just finished one a couple of days ago: The Last Unicorn, by Peter S. Beagle.
Oh geez, how do you explain this book...
It's a bit of a twisted fairy tale, but not twisted in a bad way. Even the characters mention once or twice that they are in a fairy tale. There are anachronistic concepts that are used to show the absurdity (but also the necessity) of romanticism, and even one or two physical anachronisms (such as a prince reading a magazine while the princess tries to lure a unicorn).
Themes: Redemption, what truly is rather than what people think is, morality as opposed to idealization.
And that's the best I can do, I think :D It's a very strange little book.

"I am what I am. I would tell you what you want to know if I could, for you have been kind to me. But I am a cat, and no cat anywhere ever gave anyone a straight answer."

Books are cool. For a long time I didn't read fiction. But now I am starting to enjoy fiction again.

One good series I would highly recommend is the "Ender's Game" series by Orson Scott Card. Ender's Game is just the name of the first book. It has 4 books in the main series, and several books about side stories. I have just read the 4.

The storyline is basically about a boy, ender, who is super smart who the army wants to train to be the leader of an army of space ships that are being sent to attack the homeworld of an alien race that attacked earth several years (decades?) earlier. And that is just the first book. The story goes on and on. It is truly amazing. The character development is superb and the themes discussed are deep and relevant (most of the time).

Oh and I have more, so much more.

How about some non-fiction for a bit?

The Sacred Romance. By John Eldredge and some other guy (who is now dead). There is a second book written by just John that was good too. But I forget the name. I read these books years ago. 12th grade actaully, now that I think about it. (4 years).

Anyhoo...the book is about...hmmm...wait! Idea! Me be lazy and post what amazon says about it. :)

" In The Sacred Romance, authors Brent Curtis and John Eldredge inspire readers to enter into the greatest romance of all time--one with God. Many Christians have tried to satiate the hunger of their hearts by substituting the love of God with things from this world. Since "our heart is the key to the Christian life," this often leads to spiritual stagnation and unhappiness, while God, the "Great Lover," attempts to lavishly adorn us with His perfect love. Doubting God's goodness coupled with fear of trusting Him blind the believer and prevent him from being wooed by God into a rich relationship. Life can soon become empty, cold, and worthless. Through personal narrative, Curtis and Eldredge take turns convincing the reader not only that God is good, but that recklessly abandoning oneself to Him results in a fulfilling life of abundance and awe. In this portrayal of God's character, the obvious error lies in believing that He could need anything from His creatures, or that He could be "hurt" by their unrequited love. On the whole, however, this is a call to a more passionate relationship with the lover of our souls. A follow-up book, The Journey of Desire, was written by John Eldredge after Brent Curtis's tragic death. --Jill Heatherly "

Yeah, go internet!

And now for what I am currently reading. I am reading the third book in a series called Foundation or something like that.

It is by issac Assimov. The first two books have been great. The general story line is that there is a huge galatic empire. And some guy, Hari Seldon, thinks it is about to collapse. He has actaully proved using this thing called "psychohistory". It reduces human behavior in massive, massive, groups down to mathematical equations that can be solved. He forsees a dark time ahead for the human race. The empire will collapse, and the galaxy will be plunged into darkness for 30000 years before a new empire is formed (based off his calculations). But he has a plan! He is going to set up two "foundations" on opposite edges of the galaxy that will serve to decrease the time of darkness to a mere 1000 years. The rest of the books are about the adventures of these foundations. The first two books take place over the first 300 years. They are quite exciting because of the way the characters figure out how to deal with the situations at hand. I recommend to anyone!

I just finished my, I don't know, maybe 25th (?) reading of C.S. Lewis's Till we have Faces. It's my favorite book. (And his too!)

It's basically the retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche. Y'know, Venus gets jealous of a beautiful girl and orders her sacrificed. Cupid falls in love with Psyche and saves her but never lets her see his face. Pscyhe's sisters come to visit and they convice her to take a lamp and look at him when he's sleeping. Tragedy (and redemption) ensues.

Lewis turns into a pretty amazing story about sacred and profane love. More particularly 'losing' someone to the Love of God. It's told from the perspective of an ugly woman and it still blows me away how right on Lewis is when it comes to the mind of a woman.

It's beautifully written.

Does the library have anything by Terry Pratchett? I recommend Small Gods. Just don't drink anything while you're reading it, or it might be disastrous.

I think that the dog should not be scared of the painters. Poor doggie. He needs a nap.

I'm finishing up The Last Juror by John Grishim. The Divinci Code is next. I want to see what all the uproar is about.

"The Case for Christ"
Chapter 5 is especially interesting for me. John McRay is the father of a former preacher at Bering - my church. Rob McRay (the son) is the man who truly introduced me to Christ. I've met John on several occasions, when he visited Houston.

I actually left the house on Friday and got to spend a gift card I had for Border's. I got the 5th and 6th books in "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" series and a memoir called "girl meets GOD" It's about a woman who became a Christian while studing to become an Orthodox Jew. I'll let you know how it is once I read it.
