Competition.....that is!! B)
This one is going to run from Monday, April 10th and end on Monday, June 12th.
If you want to join up, just post it in here with your beginning weight or measurements.....or, if you're uncomfortable with posting those, just post with the number of pounds or total inches you want to lose.
We'll have a check-in day every Monday, you'll need to post your weight, OR pounds/inches lost that week.
I'll also be posting weekly challenges, you can accumulate points and we'll have a little competition WITHIN our competition, to see who can accumulate the most points. I'll explain more on how to do that in the first challenge thread, so keep an eye out!
So....let's have some fun AND lose weight & get healthy...and READY for the warm weather, shorts, bathing suits....all that good stuff...
:yippie:

Doris' Baseline 8-Apr-2006
I just copied and pasted from my blog. The stuff in ( ) is in comparison to the prior week.
Bodyfat % = 26.1 (15 mm) (Doris with Calipers) - down 0.8% (-1 mm)
Weight = 192 lbs (+2.5 lbs)
LBM = 141.9 lbs (+3.4 lbs muscle)
Bodyfat = 50.1 lbs (-0.9 lbs bodyfat)
Total Overall Inches Reduced/Gained = +2.38"
Neck = 13.63" (+0.13")
Left Bicep (4" from elbow flexed) = 12.5" (same)
Right Bicep (4" from elbow flexed) = 12.75" (+0.25")
Left forearm (3" from elbow) = 10.5" (same)
Right forearm (3" from elbow) = 10.75" (-0.25")
Chest (at Nipples) = 41" (+1")
Under Breasts = 32.75" (same)
Waist (smallest part) = 31.5" (same)
Belly Button (2" below) = 35.5" (+1”)
Hips (widest part) = 39" (same)
Left Thigh (Widest Part) = 23.5" (+0.5")
Left Mid Thigh (8" above mid knee) = 21.5" (same)
Right Thigh (Widest Part) = 23.5" (-0.25")
Right Mid Thigh (8" above mid knee) = 21.5" (same)
Left Calf (widest part) = 16.5" (same)
Right Calf (widest part) = 16.5" (same)
Note: Results don't seem all that surprising, except that bodyfat went down despite only exercising once this week, and eating far too many carbs this week. I made this red curry chicken dish that had red potatoes in it. A no-no for me. Yesterday, after the funeral, I said I wasn't going to be a pill and just eat whatever there was -- not everything. I had a croissant sandwhich (medium size), cheesecake (a full slice), raspberry jello thing, a pinwheel, a small scoop of enchiladas and spanish rice. Coming home, I had a small sandwich on a roll. When I got home, I had a little of the remaining curry dish. My eating was very off this week, hence the gain of 2.5 lbs.
However, my water consumption was very poor yesterday and Thursday. I drank only 2 liters, which I normally drink 5+ liters. My period is 2-3 weeks late and I've been feeling very bloated most days (except when I consume high amounts of water, at which point I'm always peeing and feel like consuming salty things) and sort of PMSy. Not sure what is going on with my body.
Results for this week seem a little odd. I lost bodyfat, gained LBM, gained mainly in my tummy and breasts. Breasts I do not mind. I wish my period would come so I can just get on with things. My fault. I didn't follow my naturopath's instructions on taking my progesterone and now I've further screwed up my cycle.
Enough babbling.

Just a reminder for anyone who hasn't yet....today is the "OFFICAL" start of the challenge, so post your starting stats (weight/measurements/goal of weight to lose/etc) & let's get movin'!!!
:bounce: :yippie: :bike: :shakeit: :bounce:
LynnMcG - April 10, 2006 12:48 PM (GMT)
This is so hard...
Weight 180.3
Body fat: 43%
OK, I've been thinking a lot of about goals. I have a short term goal, during this challenge, to lose 16 lbs. My overall goal is to get into a size 8. Right now I'm between a 12 and 14. So I'm not sure what my final weight goal will be. But I'm happy with a short term goal. I think it'll be inspiring for me.
I'm in the process of trying to locate some Palm OS software to track my eating/exercise. I found a Weight Watchers program that I think should work.
I've got my water ready and downloaded this week's challenge to my Palm. I just absolutely do not feel like exercising today! But I know that'll change.
Let's all pray for each other as we go through this challenge.
| QUOTE |
| Father God I lift up my sisters to you right now - Debby, Lena, Doris and myself - as we begin this journey to make significant, permanant changes in our lives. In the name of Jesus, we bind negative feelings about ourselves, overeating, and inactivity. We loose Your mercy and grace upon us, for Your grace is sufficient, as we begin this challenge. We thank you Father that your word tells us whatever is bound on earth, is bound in heaven. And whatever is loosed on earth is loosed in heaven. We thank you for your promises and above all for your love. You want so much more for us than we can even understand. Thank you Father. In Jesus name, Amen. |
andiesmama - April 10, 2006 01:00 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the prayer, Lynn....
We're here to lift each other up & encourage each other, sister! I don't feel like exercising either....I've found myself making excuses already about how "busy" I'm going to be today....but I'm going to force myself. I may not like it, but I'll feel worse if I DON'T do it.
(how did you figure out your body fat %?)
My goal for this challenge is to lose at least 15 pounds...my BIGGER goal is to lose 30, so when I reach this short-term goal, I'll be halfway there!! :booyah:

|
My scale told me my body fat percentage. It's not as precise as how Doris measures it with the calipers, but for now it'll work.
Honey - April 10, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
Thanks for that prayer, Lynn! :hug:
I measured myself this morning and since I don't have a scale....hubby = :kick:....
Waist - 28 inches
Hips - 39 inches
Thighs - Right 22 1/2, Left 22 1/2
Butt - 38 1/4 inches.
Exercise isn't exactly one of my top priorities, either and I really have to make myself do it, too. BUT, with the warmer weather coming up, I'm seeing all kinds of outdoorsy things to do! Walking is one, biking another, jumping on the trampoline, getting out the skipping rope (altho I have a sports one, I'm still out jumping with the kiddie one with the kids. :D ) There's trails to take in parks....all kinds of action outside in the summer time. :bounce:
mdolls68 - April 10, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
The calipers are fairly inexpensive. The one I have is under $10 online. And, I only measure one point.
Doris' Goal for 2 Months:
Weight: 176 lbs (16 lbs less)
Bodyfat %: 20.2% (5.9% less)
LBM: 140.4 lbs (1.5 lbs less)
Bodyfat: 35.6 lbs (14.5 lbs less)
If I achieve my 2 month goals, I should be able to look okay in a bikini. We'll see.
Final Goals -
Weigth: 164 lbs
Bodyfat %: 14.9%
LBM: 139.6 lbs
Bodyfat: 24.4 lbs
This goal will definitely get me into a bikini and looking good.
--------------------------------
Change your mindset about exercise. It's not a matter of "feeling" like it, rather, say to yourself, "I love to do things that help me achieve my goals. I love every moment of the journey. It's cool to see my progress. I love how exercise makes me feel energized. I know I can do it. This is for my health and I love to have good health!!"
For me, it's making sure to get enough rest between my workouts. I can do it. So can you guys!!!
mdolls68 - April 10, 2006 01:37 PM (GMT)
Oh, I forgot, take your body measurements. This will help you better gauge what you're doing on a weekly basis, regardless of whether your weight goes up or down.
Last week, my weight went up 2.5 lbs from the week before. My inches also went up very slightly. However, I still ended up losing bodyfat for the week and gaining lean body mass. Had I gained 2.5 lbs in bodyfat, my inches would've gone up much more than it did.
andiesmama - April 10, 2006 01:46 PM (GMT)
Doris, how hard are those calipers to use? Do I have to be some kind of expert...because I'm not!! :D
Ok, I'll take my measurements too....later, right now I'm off to the mall to get Andie's picture taken with the Easter Bunny! :bounce:
mdolls68 - April 10, 2006 04:32 PM (GMT)
They aren't hard to use. I basically pinch the area just above your hip bone, use the calipers to measure the thickness of the fat in that area. Like for me (Woman, 36-40 yrs old), I'm at 15 mm, which equates to 26.1%. Try to use the same tension each time. If you pinch too hard or not enough, that could skew your results.
I basically have compared my results with the hydrostatic measurements and know hard to pinch. It takes me like a few seconds to measure, less time than it takes my digital scale to get my weight.
amyroo - April 10, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
All right, my official start weight is 172. I have no idea what my BMI is, so I'll just say it's high. I don't have time to measure. As far as going to bathroom 3 times a day, Ha. I can only go when someone else is here to watch the baby.

:D I used the bathroom thing as a reminder (because I need the help!)....but if you do the heel lifts anywhere, it counts....
Lena seems to think she can get them in by kissing on her hubby all day long... :rollseyes: ...:sick:

It doesn't HAVE to be in the bathroom. You can do it anywhere. Yesterday I was standing behind a chair and looking out the window, or watching tv....I always forget in the bathroom, 'cause that's a room I don't normally like to hang out in. :P I'm in and out! But so long as I have at least one hand on something, I can do them.
mdolls68 - April 15, 2006 03:03 PM (GMT)
Doris' Wk 1 End: Sat, 15-Apr-2006
Menstrual Cycle: My period started Sunday afternoon, ended Friday.
Bodyfat % = 24.9 (13.5 mm) (Doris with Calipers) - down 1.2% (-1.5 mm)
Weight = 189 lbs (-3 lbs)
LBM = 142 lbs (+0.1 lbs muscle)
Bodyfat = 47 lbs (-3.1 lbs bodyfat)
Total Overall Inches Reduced = -5.13"
Neck = 13.5" (-0.13")
Left Bicep (4" from elbow flexed) = 12.5" (same)
Right Bicep (4" from elbow flexed) = 12.75" (same)
Left forearm (3" from elbow) = 10.75" (same)
Right forearm (3" from elbow) = 10.75" (same)
Chest (at Nipples) = 41" (same)
Under Breasts = 32.75" (same)
Waist (smallest part) = 31" (-0.5")
Belly Button (2" below) = 35" (-0.5”)
Hips (widest part) = 38.5" (-0.5")
Left Thigh (Widest Part) = 22" (-1.5")
Left Mid Thigh (8" above mid knee) = 21" (-0.5”)
Right Thigh (Widest Part) = 23" (-0.5")
Right Mid Thigh (8" above mid knee) = 21." (-0.5")
Left Calf (widest part) = 16.5" (same)
Right Calf (widest part) = 16" (-0.5")
Comments: I'm pleased with losing 5"+ this week and my bodyweight AND bodyfat are down. I'm now below 25%. Yeah. I didn't expect so much since my period just ended, but I've been eating well this week, but my appetite has been a little down perhaps due to erratic sleep. Some measurements I had to take several times over since I had a hard time believing them, like my bodyfat. I got 13 mm and 14 mm, so I took the average of 13.5 mm. I can't believe that. I had to do my right calf several times because I rarely lose in my calves. I can't believe I didn't lose in my breasts. Maybe that EFT is working. I can't believe I lost that much in my thighs either.
There's still quite a bit in my tummy to lose before bikini shape. I'm not going to worry about that, rather just take the steps I need to get there. Yesterday these guys at work tried to entice me with Krispy Kremes. Like that was even an enticement. I hate Krispy Kremes.
I'll be working out this morning later, but the interesting thing is, I haven't been stressing on my diet, going with the flow. I've only done cardio once this week and lifting 3 times. I'll do cardio today and maybe yoga, if the instructor shows up. I've been doing a lot of EFT, more prayer, more focus on God.
I wonder what my results next week will be. I won't have my laptop at the Women's Retreat, so I'll have to just write it on paper and report when I get home in the afternoon.
Am ecstatic. I'm doing hydrostatic bodyfat measurements in 2 weeks, just to make sure I'm doing my measurements correct. It'll be my last measurement with Justin. I'm so sad about that.
Have lost a total of 32.50", 20.3 lbs bodyfat, 8.1% bodyfat since 23-Dec-2005. I'm so excited.
LynnMcG - April 17, 2006 12:53 PM (GMT)
End of week 1 weigh in: 178 lbs. I lost 2.3 lbs. and this is even after our ham dinner at mom's yesterday. Woo hoo!
This week's goal is 3 lbs.
Honey - April 17, 2006 01:13 PM (GMT)
Took measurements this morning:
Waist 28 1/2
Hips 36 3/4 ( :blink: )
Right & Left Thigh are both 22 1/2
I blame all the sugar I ate this weekend....hehe.
andiesmama - April 17, 2006 01:19 PM (GMT)
Yeah....I'm not even posting what I did NOT accomplish last week....suffice it to say, I've gotta buckle down & figure out something that's gonna really work for me...

However, they took my powers away, but I can still see everyone warning level ! =þ

Haha, Yours in now 67%..
So you are kinda 33% away from getting banned.
It's really just kind of a system for discipline, kind of a modified 3 strikes and you're out.
Honey - July 30, 2008 03:39 PM (GMT)
Tsk, tsk, naughty lil Jacks!
Stringaling - July 30, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
Seriously??? What have I done wrong? How does this system work? Who applies the strikes against us? So does this mean if someone on this board who happens to be a mod gets annoyed or miffed at something I post they can take it out on me by damaging my "warnings" or whatever??? How fair is that?
Are there mods for the mods? Does someone out there shadow them to make sure they aren't acting out of personal vendetta?!
No but seriously. I'd like to know what put me at 67%...Is that on the increase from something worse? And why?
Am I wrong to assume that all it takes is personal anger, frustration, disagreement, annoyance, etc ... on the side of a mod for us reg. members to be penalized...
Makes it a whole lot less comfortable to talk freely here knowing that I gotta be careful who I might upset.... :nono:
