Title: Nobodies Makin Any Decent Games Anymore
Addicted2~Jesus - April 5, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
I'm jes bout tired of that, no one seems to be makin any games worth a crap anymore, jes junk violence of crime etc. I'm a huge fan of like some of the Star Trek games, some of microsofts games to, but EA is gittin stupid wit theirs I think. I'm playin BattleFeild2 right now which isn't "to" bad, but I miss some the games like Star craft, an war craft, Star Trek armada series, thins like that. Anyone know of any decent games like those runnin round off hand? I haven't looked any up in a good while. Bout to havta load up the old atari asteroid game er sumthin LOL
Sure wish someone would combine ST Bridge Commander an Freelancer togeather, think that would be a nice game to occupy my time. All the ... mm furgot what they call em now... the Star Trek games... think one of em was called ST star fleet command er sumthin, those all sucked in my book, but I know a bunch of folks really liked em.
Even the new sim city games are jes gittin to annoyin to fool wit any more :(

Hey, I feel ya on this one. Although Wes and I have recently not had time to think about video games, I am disturbed by their content. Some are less sick than others.... things like Rise of Nations (computer) doesn't bug me.

Everquest II and Uru are great :D
Though Uru probably wouldn't appeal to a wide variety of people.

What about all the Elderscroll games? We've been playing Morrowind for fours years now and still love it. (It's very open ended.)
Oblivion (the sequel) just came out. We just need to decide if we are going to spend money on it just yet.

Shoot... I either need to get a new computer or an Xbox 360 before I can even move forward with considering that decision.
Have you seen the game discussion for Oblivion on CF? The game sounds and looks sooooo delicious!

I've been avoiding anything spoilerish about Oblivion, though I am encouraged to hear how much more realistic the character interactions are.
Someone did spill it to my husband that one of the characters I was looking forward to hearing gets bumped off pretty early on in the game. I guess the actor cost too much to have him talking for the whole game!

Oblivion is soooo amazing! The graphics are unreal (as in they are the most realistic I have yet to see). I was so going to bring that game up. I don't own it, and for good reason. If I got that game I would spend all night and day playing it and probably end up dropping out of school.
The environment is huge. You can walk around in huge forests. Anyway, its awesome.. but you need a super good computer to run it, and you either need a lot of time or a lot of will power if you don't want it to consume your life.

I’d pick up Oblivion but personally I’m just too fed up with all the magic junk. I did spend tons of time playing Morrowind, I had a rogue archer. I recently reinstalled it, I was looking for modelling ideas and Morrowind is a good design example. I find the terrain a bit bland and repetitive but structure models are pretty sweet.
I can’t say that there is anything new out there this moment that really catches my interest. Often I will play the same games that I like a lot for years. I get attached to the games and pull them apart to see how they tick and/or modify them.
For games that require an Internet connection to play I can spend years tracking their development and discussing their mechanics in the developers public forums if they offer them. The main one I’ve been tracking is Lord of the Rings Online and recently Star Trek Online. I think STO is one to look forward to, still some time off though.
I hear the new Age of Empires is pretty good, I may pick that up sometime. I nearly picked up CivIV but I’ve heard that it’s not that great and I have hardly been playing CivIII for some time now. If you like sci-fi games, EVE Online may be worth checking out, it’s one of the few mmo’s that I have not tried but it’s the top one on many of the more respectable mmorpg rating lists. It has a free trial. I could suggest some older games. Oh, I’ve been meaning to pick up Knights of the Old Republic (original), I heard that was really good. Mostly I’ve just been playing Anarchy Online and PlanetSide lately yet those too are older games, but at least still actively being developed.
