Title: Kick Starting Weight Loss....

andiesmama - March 15, 2006 01:52 PM (GMT)
I exercise every day (except on weekends), eat right during the week (might cheat a little bit on weekends) and the scale is NOT going down....very frustrating...what can I do to get the pounds off & see weight change?

Just remember it's not all about the scale. Especially if you're working out you are probably increasing some of your muscle which will counteract some of the fat weight loss. Are you noticing your body become more toned?

yes, my clothes seem to be fitting a little bit better, but it's so frustrating because I've cut back on my calories, am upping my water intake, AND exercising at least a half hour 5 days a week (sometimes 45 min)....and I've yet to make it to a 10 pound weight loss!! :wall:

Then stop focusing on weight loss and start focusing on the overall picture! Your goal is to get healthier and you're doing that!

Debby,

There could be a number of things --

1. Sleep (not getting enough could hinder certain hormones from working properly, therefore hindering fat loss)

2. The wrong macronutrient ratio - % carbs, % protein, % fat = 100%. The carb/protein/fat ratio could be off. I know for me to typically lose bodyfat, my fat % = 40-50, protein % = 20-30, the rest carbs. If my carb intake is typically more than 30% (20% is better), I tend to not be able to lose bodyfat.

3. Maybe not working hard enough for long enough period of time for cardio. I use a heartrate monitor to gauge how well I'm doing throughout the whole cardio session.

4. Are you eating a lot of processed stuff, or "diet" stuff?

5. Are you stressed? Higher cortisol levels cause an increase in your bodyfat stores.

6. Calories are either too high or too low. If it's too high, you'll gain. If it's too low, your body will conserve, hang onto to what it has. You need to understand what this really is for your body at whatever moment of time you are experiencing this.

7. You body may be lacking in certain nutrients, not allowing it to perform up to par.

8. Patience

 Muscles weigh MORE than fat. When I was running I gained 4 pounds.

You could start eating a pink grapefruit for breakfast. There's something in grapefruit that speeds your metabolism....

Thanks for all the tips, Doris! Carbs are my downfall, I need to cut them down, probably....and maybe I need to up my calories...:dunno:....I don't know exactly how many calories I'm eating in a day, but I do know I've cut way back on them.

Ceres...wonder if it would be the same if I just drank a glass of grapefruit juice? I really DON'T like grapefruit, but I could probably chug a glass better than I could eat one...

ceres - March 15, 2006 06:59 PM (GMT)
But, er, grapefruit juice is NASTY and nothing like grapefruit itself. I am pretty sure that is because they throw the rind and all into the juicer. Have you ever noticed how bitter grapefruit rind is?

andiesmama - March 15, 2006 07:34 PM (GMT)
well...yeah....bleah! B)

note to self: buy grapefruit at store.....

:haha: that just tickled me for some reason....aren't kids funny?

Switch up your routine. YOur body gets used to doing the same thing over & over and then doesn't react the same. Switching your workout routine will "shock" the body and make it have to adapt/change.

This is something I always did - changed my routine every 4 - 6 wks. I would usually see some good gains the first two wks of each cycle.

As far as eating goes. Allow yourself one day to eat wutever you want. I've found that it helps decrease the cravings if you know that on Saturday is a free day and you can eat wutever you want.

Just a thought.

Thanks GR....I might go back to my "old" workout DVD, I've been doing my other one for probably 6-8 weeks now....
