Title: Silly Question....

andiesmama - March 9, 2006 01:14 PM (GMT)
...but....are you supposed to refrigerate honey after you open the bottle? I ALWAYS have done it, and it's so annoying when I go to use it because the honey's cold and takes forever to come out!

All of a sudden when I was making Andie breakfast (today it's peanut butter & honey sandwich  ), I thought "maybe" you don't have to keep it in the refrigerator, and nowhere on the bottle does it say "Refrigerate after opening"...

Does anyone know for sure? :dunno:

I've never refrigerated honey. I don't think you need to. It doesn't spoil or turn like dairy products or meat.

You absolutely do not have to refrigerate honey. Take it from a beekeeper's daughter :D

If it makes you feel any better, my mom puts her honey in the fridge. Why, I don't know....honey doesn't go rancid that easy. :dunno:

ya, and it's not like we NEVER use it....we actually go through ALOT of honey, honey...:P...so it wouldn't have a CHANCE to go bad!

Update: it's now in my pantry, right beside the peanut butter...

Ok, now some folks put peanut butter in the fridge because THAT can go rancid....unless you eat it all the time, I wouldn't worry about it. ;)

:rolf:  Will you please come to my house & rearrange my pantry/refrig? Evidently I need help!

Disclaimer: I go through a jar of peanut butter in a couple weeks, so I don't think I have anything to fear....

I recently read that honey is the only food product on the planet that will not spoil or go bad. It may crystalize, but will not spoil.....

And if it crystalizes, all you have to do is put the jar in some hot water. Or even better....run the crystals through a grinder. Creamed honey

Yum - Creamed honey.

I played a video game where you had to de-crystalize a jar of honey. I'm standing in the middle of a spa (with hot whirlpool baths) going, "What do I do with this jar?!"

If only you had been there!!
