Title: Nails...
Description: can you safely remove these things?!

ChittyBang6 - March 2, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
i had fake nails (gel) put on about a month ago and i need to get them taken off because they are growing out so bad. it costs money to take them off at the salon so i didn't know if i could do it safely here at home w/o ruining my nails. anyone know?? just curious! :dunno:

That's so funny because I posted a thread a few weeks ago about me taking my acrylics off! I had them for the longest time but got into doing a bunch of yard work around the house & it wasn't worth it to keep them....

I'm not sure for gels, but for acrylics if you soak them in nail polish remover WITH acetone, it helps soften them up....but your real nails underneath will STILL be flimsy & flaky...

Ceres turned me onto Burts Bees cuticle cream (something like that)...anyways, I found a tin that I'd had & slathered it on my nails every night....it REALLY helped get them looking healthy again...

ok...i know....bad quote to mark, but i just couldn't help myself! i thought it was too good to pass up!! hee hee. :rolf:

anyway...i'll have to try that w/ the bee cream stuff. i have NEVER heard of that! i'll try anything at this point. they are so grown out that i can't hardly type! it's pathetic!!

LOL....we call that "sigworthy" here! B) And you found me out, she DOES turn me on...:eyebrows:

Anyways, before you try taking them off, be SURE to clip them down short, it'll be easier. Use a nail file to lift them up & pry them off....I think I found my Burts Bees stuff at Cracker Barrell....probably Bath & Body Works might have it or something like it there....

And if you can't find it, slather with like Vitamin E oil or something right before you go to bed, just something to get the nutrients & oils back into your nails.

Whatever you do, don't pull them off.

Get pure acetone from a beauty supply store...or maybe even at Walmart. Pour it into a glass bowl (NOT PLASTIC) and soak them off. It's going to take a little while, but it'll be worth saving the surface of your nails.

Then be sure to follow up with conditioning them. If you can't find that Burt's Bees stuff soak your nails in some warm olive oil once in a while. Healthy nails start with healthy cuticles.

I know, it's just fake nails...but still! I have a heckuva time just taking nail polish off! I do it quick and then let my nails BREATHE....

yikes, don't you hate it when they're so rough? Once, I had a guy cut me right behind the nail, when he was filing it into shape....OUCH!!

Now, I've found a place where they really do a good job, they haven't hurt me once....when I lose 10 pounds, that's my reward! B)

Ok, lady...here's what I don't get. You can talk about ripping fake nails off of your real nail and off comes this glue and possibly a piece of your real nail...but you can't stand it if someone files their nail into shape? Debby, Debby, Debby! I don't get it! I really don't. Filing is all natural!
