Title: Self Challenge
Description: Is anyone doing this?

~MG - February 28, 2006 01:14 AM (GMT)
I tried to attack the fitness thing with Self's 2005 challenge. Of course, I only made it through 2 workouts! I am using it this year as my "base". I know that if i try to commit myself to someone elses routine, I will get overwhelmed. So, I am taking it one day at a time.

I weigh 130 lbs, with great skin, and good lines. Trouble is my metabolism plummeted after hysto, so i am wayyyyyyyy lazy. and the pounds are creeping. I weighed 121 9 months pregnant with my first child! So 130 seems so big on me. I am 5"2 on a good day, and very very small framed. I do not look sleek, and healthy by anyone's definition, and it is taking a toll on my self esteem. But it is also effecting my 9 year old, but that is another story.

I was just wondering if anyone else was on board with self, that I could buddy with. I am keeping a blog, no where as intense as yours Doris! I WISH I could find out what my body fat was!!! I think it would be highly motivating!

Do you have a link? Is it free? Is it too late to join? Am I asking too many questions? B)

Seriously....I'll need to have something to keep my hiney in gear after our FHL challenge is over...I want to keep up the momentum, ya know?

PS...I hear ya about the lazy thing...I HATE to exercise.... :bored:

It kicked off Feb 20 so it is not too late. It is http://www.self.com if you wanna check it out. Everything in their February magazine issue is on their site. It is a body makeover that runs until May I think. They "SAY" that you can drop 10lbs in the first 4 weeks! We will see.

But i have to get "real" recipes. I can't prepare that fancy stuff they have on there!!!

You have 24.6% body fat.

You have 31.98 pounds of fat and 98.02 pounds pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water).

It says my bodyfat is 22%. That is totally wrong. My bodyfat really is about 29.85%. This is based off of caliper measurements I do and I've compared these measurements to hydrostatic bodyfat measurements, which is the gold standard for measuring bodyfat.

I really wish I was 22%, but I know I'm not.

Yeah, I was wondering how accurate that was.....especially since YOURS is 29% and this showed mine at 21%??!?!? LESS than Doris??!?!? I think not.... B)

Maybe they are trying to make us feel good

Well as much as I like data, I think that (for me) I need to improve my health moreso than dropping the pounds. The exercising is just icing on the cake for more energy and better sleep.

I HAVE to kick smoking. I have 2 knots in my throat that I am absolutely terrified to see a doctor about!!!! Stupid I know. But I am praying about it, and hope that becoming a fitness fanatic will change the "behavior".

Debby, I will look for the email. I can't wait! I know you like to do your exercises moreso during the mid day nap time, mine is moreso in the evenings. With me working now, I would like to get going first thing in the morning. I would like to hit the ground with health in mind..... not the coffee and smoke.

I hope this works out. I am horrible and follow through, so I really need a drill instructor.

Rambling.....sorry.

Do you want me to start a different thread for us, like a semi-offical "check in" thread?

I hear ya about the health concerns....I've had high BP ever since I got it when I was PG and do NOT want to go on meds....I checked it when I was at the grocery store today & it's decreased significantly! :amen:

I know by dropping some pounds & keeping up with the cardio & stuff it'll help alot...

Let me know if you don't get that email, I sent it late last night....
