Title: I'm Going On An Advance This Weekend

LynnMcG - February 23, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
Our church's annual Women's Advance (we don't call it a retreat because Christians don't retreat, we advance) is this weekend. I leave tomorrow. I'm so psyched. It's been about 9 years since I went on one.

Do you or have you guys gone on a men's or women's retreat with your church?

I used to go on retreats when I was a member of the baptist Church.. It was fun. I haven't gotten involved yet in the women's groups at my current church yet--Kinda shy, kinda have three kids in my hands, kinda only have one mode of transportation for the whole family...not gonna be an easy thing to do...

Have a good time!

There's a women's retreat coming up that I was thinking about going to. If nothing else, it would get me out of the house and talking to people. I dunno, maybe.
I used to go on the girls' retreats a long time ago, some of them were mother/daughter...those were cool...

Have fun Lynn....we're expecting a full report when you get back!

Your family have anything fun planned to do while you're away?

You know what String? The women's groups in your church is probably the best place to get help in your situation. We had one car forever. I found once I got myself plugged in I never asked for help, but had my sisters at church call me all the time to offer it. They would pick me up, bring me things I might need, or watch the kids so I could get a break.

Get plugged in. Don't be shy either. You're certainly not shy here! ;)

Oh, and yes they have lots planned for when I'm gone. Apparently, my husband believes that after this weekend, they'll never want to be without him. We'll see.

I love the Men's Retreat! I've even been promoting it, inviting friends and my dad. My dad refuses...

I wrote about it in my blog. We used to go to Trinity Pines - on Lake Livingston. But Lake Livingston was drained 'cuz Hurricane Rita damaged the dam. So we went to Camp Allen instead. It was really plush! Too plush for a Men's Retreat! We need someplace rugged! :D

I even wrote a song based on an old southern gospel tune:
Who's that walking down the road
Carrying such a heavy load
My friend you've got to come on down
To the annual Men's Retreat

Come to the Men's Retreat
Gonna do stuff that can't be beat
Eat a lot and talk about the Lord
Praise God, Glory Hallelujah!
Sitting 'round the campfire
Actually able to see the stars
Why you still here?
You should be at the Men's Retreat!

Thanks Clay!

I heard the place we're going to is pretty rugged. It's in rural PA. It's a 2.5 hour drive from my house. PLUS, I'm sharing a cabin with 8 women! Could be worse, I heard there's another cabin with 12 women in it.

Plus, with all the stuff everyone's bringing, you'd think we were going for a week instead of just the weekend!
