Title: Tulips & Bulbs
andiesmama - February 16, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
I know this probably should be in "Ladies", but perhaps some of you manly men know something about the topic....
Anyways....my MIL gave me a planter with about 6 tulips in it. She said something about after the flowers are all done blooming, I can dig up the bulbs & dry them out (or something), & re-plant them in our yard?
Does anybody know anything about this kinda stuff? Last time I checked, my thumb was SOOOOO NOT green!! B)

I put bulbs in the ground. They shattered and I had this wire inside all the broken glass.
:haha:
Seriously - I don't know.

If you can keep them alive in the planter through the year then it would be good to plant them early next fall or early spring. either way make sure they are either in the ground before winter or after. Planting them during the winter could shock them to death. You could plant them in the ground now. It is best to plant them while they are dormant or barely starting to grow. I really don't know much about them but i bet you could google it..

I bet if I told my kids to plant bulbs outside, they'd try to plant lightbulbs....Then Isaiah'd have a blast stepping on them and smashing them.... I can see it now.

String is right.... you plant bulbs in the fall or early spring.... in the fall, after October or in the spring as soon as the ground stops being frozen........ wait a minute, youre in Florida. Are you sure you can DO Tulips that come back every year? I thought they needed a winter....

Yeah you'll want to find "zones for tulips" if you find out the zones they are perennial in and then look at the zone map that will be it

I just keep bulbs in the ground all year round. They come up every spring anyways. My sister just gave me a big pail of lily bulbs. I just need to wash them off and plant them...Can't wait. My "flower bed" looks pathetic.
