Title: Vent, Rant, Whatever You Wanna Call It
Description: sewage in my house
clayman - February 13, 2006 07:16 PM (GMT)
In December, 2004, the sewer company was blowing out the lines. It came into my house. The guy said, "If we'd opened up the clean-out, it wouldn't have happened." Thirty minutes after the incident, a clean-up company came out, cut out our carpet and sanitized the walls, wet-bar, throne room, etc. The next day, an insurance adjuster came out and paid our claim.
Fast-forward to today. It happened again. Only this time, everybody's denying responsibility. "We didn't hire the contractor. What's the name of the contractor?" Well, there are no markings on the trucks. The workers only speak Spanish. I finally asked one "Como se llama su compania". He answered, "Allco."
So, I got a visit from the field supervisor - Tony. He offered to give me the chemicals to clean up the sewage. I said, "No, I didn't do this. Your company needs to send out a professional company like ServPro or Blackmon Mooring to do the job right. The carpet's wet and needs to be replaced. The walls have sewage on them." He said he'll talk to his supervisor and see what he says.
I needed to vent. I also would like to ask for your prayers. #1 - that I don't lose my temper. God's been keeping a tight rein on me so far, and I've maintained my cool. But...
#2, that the company involved will meet my demands without me needing to go to a higher level.
Thanks!

I hav had it come up in my garage. I know how bad this ould be, bt I couldn't imagine it in my house. I am so sorry that you are having to deal ith this. Maybe you could "encourage" them by reminding them of the health implications this has for your family and that if they get sick--somene will be responsible...
God bless you--through all the crap life has to throw at you....

I needed that one! :haha:
At least it's warmed up enough that we can open the windows - with sweatshirts on.

Update:
Well, just for grins, I called my insurance agent. He had never heard of it, but he called an adjuster who was very familiar with the situation. Apparently, this sort of thing happens all the time. MUDs hire the cheapest company they can to do the job, and that company doesn't care what happens. Legally, the MUD is under no obligation to pay for the damage, it's up to the contractor. And this contractor is only offering to give me the chemicals so I can clean up his mess. I'm holding out. I didn't do this to my house, someone else did - through sheer carelessness. And they need to take care of their mess.
Looks like I'll be heading for Small Claims Court.

Well, I finally got in touch with a neighbor of ours. Nichole plays with her granddaughter all the time. Everybody say "Awwww!"
Diana is on the board. She said she will get it taken care of. She also had a few not so nice words to say about the contractor - the guy who told me, "If your vents were clear on your house, this wouldn't have happened." In fact, I can't re-print Gramma's words on this family site. Against forum rules. B)
Well, maybe we'll get this taken care of today. My house stinks. Maybe we'll get new carpet again! :booyah:

Clay....why don't you just put down tile??
clayman - February 13, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Ya know, we wanted to do that last time, but we were rushed and short on funds. It was right before Christmas, which we were hosting that year.
Maybe we'll do that. It'll keep the house cooler in the summer, that's for sure!
Good idea, Deb!

Man, that would make me so mad! Why can't people just take care of their responsibilities instead of trying to get out of it! They made the mess! They should clean it up! End of story! :grrrrrr: God job keeping your cool, Clay - I would have been fuming!
clayman - February 14, 2006 03:03 AM (GMT)
I've had serious issues with keeping my cool and today was a MAJOR test. But, with the help of God, I kept it in line.
The de-watering guy just left. He took some carpet padding that was wet, and sprayed sanitizer all over everything. This house smells like a Lysol factory. But that's better than :poop:.
The contractor upon whom responsibility finally fell was trying to weasel out of it by saying that it's my fault the stuff blew up. He said, "Your vents are plugged and that's why it blew up."
Question for Mr. McG: Is that a reasonable assumption? Nobody from the water board knew about that. Neither did the water company. They laughed when I told them he said that.
Anyway, we're gonna get some new pad and my headache's over. I'm going to buy a new cap for my clean-out. I heard there's a cap that automagically vents when the pressure gets too high. I also heard that I can have a backflow preventer installed. It might be worth the trouble.

I'm glad its all worked out . I am also going to have to get a backflow preventer for our sewage line....When finances permit...I am soo glad it is over. I was furious enough when it was in my garage, I couldn't imagine it being in the house. I'd probably die.....
