Title: Gray Day
Description: I can't get motivated
clayman - February 10, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
I need more coffee! I can't get started today. We have tried to start lessons, but just can't make it work. We had a short discussion on the white board about presidents serving no more than 10 years or two complete terms.
Man this day is rough. It's cool, about 55F (13C) and rainy. The dog won't even go outside. It's not stormy, though we've been under thunderstorm watches all day. It's just plain nasty.
We watched COPS, but the chase scene got a little nasty so I changed to the news. It's not much better. The TV's off now. The girls are arguing over the one balloon that didn't get inflated and tied off yesterday.
I need more coffee!

Clay, I hope you meant 8 years..remember terms are only 4 years each...
Sorry you're having such a bummer day--
I love gray weather. No sun, lots of clouds! I can actually go outside without squinting(light colored eyes-very light sensitive) no fear of sunburn...ahhh--except when it is cold
Why don't you have coffee?

I think they can serve an extra 2 years under "special circumstances" to make a maximum 10 potential years possible. But I'm not American so I don't know much about this stuff

Personally I think that the first presidential term should be 6 years, so that there would be time for their policies to go into effect while they are still in charge, then, by the end of their term we would know whether or not we want to elect them for a second term, which should be only 4 years...

Sarah gets the Citizenship Award for the day.
Yes - if a VP assumes the office with two years or less remaining in the term of the outgoing president (died in office, impeached, resigned), then the new prez can run for two more terms.
If, however, a VP assumes the office with more than two years remaining, then the VP can only run for one more term.
The ten year rule is why a GWB can not run for re-election in 2008. If he were elected, and if nothing were to happen to him during that term, he would have 12 years.
This Constitution Amendment was passed after FDR was elected to four consecutive terms, and took effect in 1951 - only six years after Roosevelt died.

yeah - that's a good idea. But arranging it like that would really make it difficult to plan for the future. Will I run for prez in 2008 or 2010?

This time you'd have to run in 2008 because it is a second term, but next time since it would be a new pres and the term would be six years(in my imginary world) you'd run in 2014. If he was reelected he would only get another 4 years, but if he lost and you won you'd have six years.
1st term-- always six years
2nd term--always four years

Yes, Ma'am - and I was the #8 speller in the State of Texas in 1981.
Grey is the English spelling. But, as you know, we Americans wanted to ditch all things continental. So, in addition to
license,
favorite,
color and others, we spell it
gray.

I have a nasty head cold and find this thread is wearing me out.
Presidential terms for a 6 year-old's homeschool lesson?
Clay, you're tough.

Well, she asked why presidents don't stay on until they die. So, I answered it.
But, I'm proud to be tough. :ar15

When I was 8 years old I decided I wanted to be an attorney. So for my 9th birthday my father gave me an LSAT study guide. I had to read it every day and when he came home, present him with something new I'd learned from the book.
THAT'S tough teaching.
And a little weird too.
