Title: I Just Ordered Satelite Tv

Does anyone else have it? I'm so sick and tired of our cable bill going up and up and not getting any new channels! It's $55 a month now for basic cable.

So I ordered Dish Network and for $39.99 a month we get: 120 channels, local channels, a cazillion Sirus music channels a dual digital recorder (TiVo) and systems for both tvs. We'll have the channels we watch more now plus a bunch more. Oh, and we get 8 Starz channels free for 3 months.

We have Dish Network and love it. Of course the in laws pay for it - I'm not sure we could afford it if we had to pay for it ourselves.

I just have basic free TV--its like less than ten channels or something...i couldn't imagine dishing out so much money just to vegitate on the couch....that's what I have internet for--its at least a bit more interactive...

On our regular TV we get ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and TBN and twice as many Mexican channels. Yeah, we hardly ever used to watch TV

Yeah, less than 10 channels here, too. Good enough.

WOW!! $55 for basic cable? That's crazy.....when we bought our new tv at Christmas, it's HD-ready, so we upped our cable package to the digital cable one. I think our bill is right around $50 a month with a bunch more channels than we were getting....our basic bill was like $20/month, so for $30 more a month we get like triple the channels....

Ty's excited because now we get ESPN in HD....

Our rabbit ears pick up channels:
  • 2 (NBC)
  • 8 (PBS)
  • 11 (CBS)
  • 13 (ABC)
  • 14 (Christian)
  • 20 (UPN)
  • 21 (Spanish Christian)
  • 22 (Christian - TBN?)
  • 26 (FOX)
  • 33 (PAX)
  • 39 (WB)
  • 44 (GALA - Spanish)
  • 45 (TELEmundo - Spanish)
  • 49 (PAX)
  • 51 (Independent)
  • 55 (Independent)
  • 57 (Spanish)
  • 60 (Spanish)
  • 65 (Spanish)

19 channels - 6 of which are Spanish... Is that TMI?

19 channels - and there's still nothing on TV! We only watch about 2 hours every week and most of that's Saturday Morning Cartoons on Channel 22.

Isn't it funny to see what everyone thinks of tv?

Where we live you can't get any channels without cable or satelite. I think it has something to do with the shape of our valley. I know it makes it great for Satelite though. Because Sirus and most major networks have their dishes in our valley.

Anyway, I think tv has become too important in our house. So much so, that we've begun a no-tv night. I think it's the saddest thing that it's so important that we actually have to schedule a no-tv night.

We had DISH and it was VERY cool....problem was, I would plant myself in front of it for like 4-5 hours after work....

We got rid of it years and years ago...saving 5-600 bucks a year and spending more time with kids and each other...Wifey got sky-angel for a few years...but alas, we can't afford that now.

Don't get me wrong...I LOVE TV...

But she was always complaining about me watchin' too much, and I was always complaining about money...

So I'm saving alot of money...and she gets blessed with more time from me...hehe.

OK, so I did finally get satellite tv yesterday, but not from DishNetwork. They gave me the old bait and switch, which I found out when I called Dish. Instead of a $39.99 a month bill, it turned out it was really $53.00 a month. Nice, huh? I was on the phone for hours yesterday trying to get some answers. People hung up on me, told me I was wasting their time, put my on eternal hold to get rid of me, etc.

I finally got someone at Dish Network who explained my bill and cancelled our installation. Oh, and he also aplogized for the unfair treatment I received with the sales company. Which was nice.

I called Direct TV, got even more channels for less money. Our installation is scheduled for the end of the month.

This is exactly why I won't let hubby get satellite. I still have vivid memories of mom hollering at dad to get his butt moving and yadda, yadda, yadda....we had cable. Hubby had satellite when he was baching. He admitted that he sat up with his buddies til 3am! Watching movies when they should be sleeping! He also admitted that he'd probably sit there for hours watching stuff. AND he's a major channel surfer. You can't get that guy to stay on ONE channel for more than 2 minutes!

Ok, continue on....hehehe! :tease:

Oh the remote...that thing must be lined with GOLD or something. The other day we lost the remote for the TV and I thought he was having a heart attack or something! He fussed and ranted all day until it was found. Once it was found, he calmed right down and flicked channels. :screwy: Like a baby crying and won't stop until he's got the dummy in his mouth!
