Title: Stretch Marks
Honey - February 1, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
Who's got them?
Is there a way to ever get rid of them? :bored:
Sarah - February 1, 2006 06:24 PM (GMT)
I've got them and no I don't think they can be gotten rid of once you have them.
andiesmama - February 1, 2006 06:32 PM (GMT)
I've got 'em too, and I think they're there to stay....
Honey - February 1, 2006 06:43 PM (GMT)
Maybe I'll start naming mine...
Stringaling - February 1, 2006 06:57 PM (GMT)
Mine are so bad from pregnancy that it took a few years to come to terms with the fact that my skin is now horrendous..like so stretched that it hangs loose....mega bad! That was part of the reason I didn't want to officially join this fitness competition. it looks bad under tight fitting clothes.

I call them my badge of honor. Instead of thinking they're unattractive, I'll remind myself of why I have them. They're beautiful!

That's what my hubby calls them too. He says I should be proud of them because of what they represent.

Its hard for me to see it that way because I see women who have had more kids than I have and they aren't even marred in the leat bit. Mine are so bad that I feel so irritated when I see all those women who have only three stretch marks whining. I literally do not have an inch of un stretch marked skin on my stomach anywhere. They span the entire space between my pelvic bones and starte waaaaayyy down low and go to about 4 1/2 inches above my belly button. I am not proud of what they represent. I didn't want to be pregnnt in the first place and then to top off that my skin was made ugly by that pregnancy....Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Well, I think my stretch marks are actually fading. I compare mine to my sisters and mine are fairly light. But the FLAB that goes along with it says it's here to stay! My fat bothers me more than the marks.

I have a few stretch marks from my one huge growth spurt. I hear that vitamin E can help fade them a bit.
LynnMcG - February 1, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
There is scar cream you can use, but only on new stretch marks.
andiesmama - February 1, 2006 11:18 PM (GMT)
Mederma, Lynn? I didn't know that worked on stretch marks!
Mandy, I heard that about Vitamin E as well....also, somebody told me to use that on Andie's scar to help it fade...
Sarah - February 1, 2006 11:48 PM (GMT)
I thought Vitamin E helped prevent/reduce stretch marks because it helps make the skin more elestic-y? Does it also help fade them?

That's what I've heard, but I haven't had the opportunity to test it.

Vitamin E is supposed to help wrinkles, too. :dunno:

I'm almost afraid to post here after String's outburst........
I didn't get any on my stomach at all.
I only got a few on my butt, and they are in such a place that I can still wear bikinis if I choose. They were from the birth too, not the pregnancy, because I tore so badly that everything within a mile of the tear got soooooo swollen sooooooo fast. They weren't there until after the birth so thats annoying.
On another note, I used Palmer's lotion to prevent stretch marks... I didn't know if it works or not, people tell me not, but I used it on my stomach everyday.... and viola! No stretch marks. So who knows? Its worth a try.....
Stringaling - February 6, 2006 12:15 PM (GMT)
The reason lotions and stuff don't work is because it has nothing to do with keeping the skin sof and supplw. stretch marks occur when the elastin in your skin get stretched beyond it capability and breaks. Once the elastin is broken the area will not go back together because there is nothing pulling it back together, so it looks like it does and sits a little looser than before. I think it is genetics. My cousin got them nearly a bad as I did and she has naturally oily skin versus my dryness. We both tried using moisturizers and such while we were pregnant but it didn't help. Ladies (like ceres :smack: ) who don't get them are just blessed with better genetic resiliance to such things.....
I looked the other day on the internet at before and after pics of tummy tuck people--Mine could have fit right in there with the before pics....makes me want to cry...really
Honey - February 6, 2006 12:25 PM (GMT)
Well, I'm not gonna stress too much over mine. They're obviously there to stay and besides, looking at the baby pics and the kids now...I'm kinda proud that I managed to hold them inside my belly then squeezed them out later! My hubby could never do that! ;)
Stringaling - February 6, 2006 12:28 PM (GMT)
I try not to...But its hard. They have literally resized my skin--its too big for me now :( --I never squeezed my kids out--i had 3 c-sections--I think the stretch marks are more disturbing to me than my c-section scar...
