Title: Wedding....
Description: (stolen topic form.......that place...

So, would you attend the wedding of your CHILD if he/she was getting hitched to a non-christian? Why or why not?
Honey - February 1, 2006 01:11 AM (GMT)
WHY do you DO this? :smack:
Redguard - February 1, 2006 01:25 AM (GMT)
Yes.
But for starters, I think we should define "non-christian" before continuing with this discussion.
Are we talking about:
1. A person who is just la-di-da about their religion and doesn't attend church or pray regularly?
2. An athiest who laughs when anyone mentions God?
3. A person of a different religion (Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, etc)?
All over Christian messageboards, I see people talk about "non Christians" all the time, and I'm never quite sure what they're referring to.
Honey - February 1, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
Ok, hubster read this and he says yes, look at the Prodigal Son, his father forgave him and if he/she were to marry a non-Christian, hopefully our child will be taught enough that the seed would be planted and then the spouse would be sanctified through your child (the Christian) and family.

I would say yes to all the above. Non-Christian....a person that is not a Christian. :)
I think all of those would qualify....to some degree.
Mandy - February 1, 2006 10:17 AM (GMT)
Certainly I would. I don't see a point in not---what kind of good is THAT supposed to do? :dunno:
Stringaling - February 1, 2006 11:46 AM (GMT)
I would too. I think the point that some parents try to make is that they disapprove...Their absense doesn't do a very good jobgetting the point across, though, it just makes them look like turds. I am sure that the children know or not how their parent feels about their marriages...

I say sure, I'd support my daughter's decision.
I wouldn't be paying for the wedding though.
andiesmama - February 1, 2006 12:51 PM (GMT)
If I love my daughter unconditionally (which I do) then of COURSE I would attend her wedding no matter WHO she marries....I might not be happy about her choice, but I would still be there to support her.
Addicted2~Jesus - February 1, 2006 01:15 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, good question.... but since Kat isn't ever goin to marry any slack jawed.... such an such perhaps I can dodge this bullet hehe.
Seriously though, I donno, it's got me thinkin, like Deb said, I love my daughter unconditionally, an I reckon I'd have to rely on the seed planted in er youth to hopefully direct er away from sucha feller er at least post pone thins long enuff that he either becomes saved er breaks it off. Would jes havta pull out the faimly bible, ya know the one right? Big enuff to chocke a mule? an show em how we apply the word of God. Jes have em over alot an be as Christ like as possible.
I'm also wit Squat. I ain't payin fur the thin.... it's goin to be hard enuff gittin me to pay anythin anyways, I had better like the guy er else they'd be lucky to git a card out of me.... infact they wouldn't git that, Sarah would probly havta do that one to hehe
Someone said what good would that do. Well I don't know that it would serve as any good an would probly have the opposite affect, an drive ones daughter further into the arms of another. An what's worse... if'n thins go south in their marriage, it's not like we can sit there an say aww jes leave em, cause God said we don't have cause to leave a non-believer, but they do. Isn't bein in the right sucky at times??

No question, I'd be there. I remember my Dad saying to me when I was a teenager that no matter who I married or where, they would be there. They wouldn't agree but they would always come and love me. It didn't make me think "Good I can do what I like" just let me know they would always be there for me. If they had said otherwise I might have thought they only love me if I do what they want.
4jacks - February 1, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
Hypothetically speaking,,...
I need to ask one question before I answer...
Am I Paying for Said Wedding?
ceres - February 1, 2006 03:33 PM (GMT)
No way, I am way too righteous and holy to be at such an event that is a very desecration of the sacrament!
Yeah I would go.

***Ok, let's throw another wrench in this deal!***
Let's say your kid decides that they are gay. No matter how well you raised them - somehow they got in their head that they were gay.
Would you go to the wedding of your homosexual child? (I know - it's not legal in MOST states...just play along people!)

If any of my gay friends decided to get married, I'd prolly go to their weddings also. I mean, they came to mine, even though they didn't approve of it.
Addicted2~Jesus - February 3, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
Well now this one... nope I wouldn't be goin cause this one is sin. I don't recall the bible callin it sin for a believer to marry a non-believer, but then agin it does say not to be unequally yoked. So I guess that might could be a way of say don't do it cause it's sin, but then I don't think God would have said so much bout a believer leavin a non-believer etc. Maybe more to the point it was for those that were married an then one became a believer..... well hehe at any rate, no if'n my kid decided they were gay... they wouldn't catch me bein part of an certainly not supportin thier sin an there's not a snow balls chance in hell that I'd be able to stomach sumthin like that anyways.
Mandy - February 3, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, same train of thought---I went to my mom's wedding even though remarriage is spoken of as a form of adultery. I'm also refraining from the "I told you so"s which are not appreciated by moms.
squatpuke - February 3, 2006 08:44 AM (GMT)
.
.
I seriously doubt it....
Honey - February 3, 2006 12:37 PM (GMT)
No, I don't think I would go to the gay wedding. We don't support gay and neither does the Bible, so no go.
andiesmama - February 3, 2006 12:59 PM (GMT)
I would go.....I would be SO not happy about it (understatement of the year?), disappointed, whatever....but I would go. She's still my daughter, and even tho I don't support her decisions I still want her to know I'm there for her. By not attending the ceremony, I'd be afraid that a bridge would be burned that could never be re-built.
Stringaling - February 3, 2006 04:00 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't go. To keep the lines of communication open I would discuss the issues with her/him and love her/him unconditionally, but I would make it clear that I disapprove of this behavior and do not want to be surrounded by the rejoicing and celebrating of it "and that is why I will not be there"

oooh, no I don't think so. I don't think I could do it.
Not going to happen though.
4jacks - February 3, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
hypothetically speaking *of course*
There would be no gay marriage...
only bullets, bats and blood.
Honey - February 3, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
I'd even do what my parents tried to do, scare the hell into them! Believe you me, I was brought up with if you LIE, YOU are going to HELL! Anyways, that just came to my mind....
GutterRat - February 4, 2006 01:22 AM (GMT)
I would go. As mama said - she's my daughter/son till the end.
Redguard - February 4, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
I don't know about the gay wedding thing...
