Title: Black Eye Shadow
Honey - January 23, 2006 04:36 PM (GMT)
So I'm looking through this palette of eyeshadow. There are 24 colours. There's black! Black is a bit dark for an eyeshadow IMO. Is there another way to use it? I've thought of using it as a paint for the kids. :D Or....I could try to make a liquid black eyeliner...

That's what I would use it for, eyeliner. I can't think of another way to use a color that dark...

It's good for a smudgy, smoky look, but you have to apply it sort of sheerly. Or you can use a little bit of water on a tiny liner brush and use it for a liner.

My complection and hair color forbids any use of black, but browns I use as an eye liner sometimes

From what you've said, your complexion is WAY too light to use black shadow. Even if you use it as a liner, it would be too dark. I use an almost black shadow on my eyes, but it works on my coloring.

Yep, maybe in the summer time when I get that deep tan...but right now, black would give me that gothic look. :| I'm using brown pencil eyeliner. I have brown liquid liner and even that looks too dark.

Lena, have you tried a gray liner?
Honey - January 23, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
Grey? Nope...I have a green one. :D I could try a grey tho...

I was going to suggest green too. Try the gray and see what you think. It goes on much lighter than it looks.

nothing, really....but some people I just can't picture as goth...and Lena's one of 'em!! I'd like to see it, tho...it might be a whole new look for her! B)

In all honesty and just my personal opinion...goths are weird! Saw a couple in Walmart the other day and I just giggled and shook my head. To myself, not to them! If I ever take a goth pic of myself....I dunno...and then to POST it!! I dunno....

Sounds like a fun project to me. C'mon Lena, doesn't that sound fun? :bounce:

I think the odd thing with the whole goth look is that it is so obviously artificial. They have to work to get the look. They have to put out extra effort to get the unusual all balck clothing appearance. Its not really anything "different" than any other group. Their "sadness, and depression" is self perpetuating. Act that way and you will feel that way. Their obsession with all things dark and questionable is just part of the movement....I imagine it will pass in the future...as all fads and styles will pass....Although they do get involved with things that are either borderline or over the line --witch craft, vampirism, etc...Perhaps one day they will mature and grow out of the "dark and dreary" phase...

I actually knew a happy goth once. She just liked wearing black and the romanticism of the some of the goth culture. We used to look at goth clothing websites together. Boy, was some of that stuff beautiful! Velvet corsets and drapey gauze skirts. I'll take some of that, please.
I like to joke that I have an inner goth girl. I'm not particularly interested in the freaky fetish stuff, but as far as fashion style goes, I really dig some of it. I even went as a goth to a Holloween party once. Apparently, I was so convincing that I freaked a few people out.
"Nice cloak. Did you used to dress like this all the time?"

I'll have to agree withyou on that one. Some of the clothing can be gorgeous.. Most of the goths in my area don't wear the pretty stuff...holey panty hose and big boots are popular here..

IMHO someone who has to stoop to wearing only black and heavy makeup all the time in order to look goth isn't very good at it...
