I've got a bone to pick with you!

Yesterday, I had TWO stars under my name!

Now I have one!

What's the ranking requirements for earning stars?

he he he - yeah that is in the process of being "changed" or "reviewed". We really didn't have it setup when we invited everyone over. I messed w/ it a little today and made adjustments. When we get it finalized - I will let you know.

I want to find little crosses to use - instead of x's. but I can't find a good graphic anywhere.

I'm part of a graphic design message board that's powered by InvisionFree as well. The owner of that site customized EVERYTHING. Header, color scheme, icons, down to the last itty bitty graphic. So I'm pretty sure anything can be done in terms of getting new graphics.

In the control panel under "board settings" - there is an option to "automatically open Fast Reply when available?" - check that to yes - all is good.

As for the smilies....not sure about that one.

Yeah - sarah is working on the "skin" right now. But it's not done. As for the graphics....if I only had a guy who was good at graphics that could create some for us....cause I suck at graphics..........now.......do I know anybody?? :eyebrows:

There IS a smilies pop up window right under the fast reply.

So...I'm wondering about the purpose of this site. Let me explain why I'm asking this in the first place.

When I first found CF I had just left a forum where I felt persecuted as a Christian so I thought I would look for a Christian site. A place where I could be with like-minded people and also grow in my walk. Like most of you, I got upset more than once and walked away from CF. Once, I even left so I could spend more time helping to set up another forum like this one.

So I gues I'm wondering, is going to be just a place to hang out, comfortably with like-minded people? Where we can just talk, almost like an extention of MM. (Which BTW, is great!) Or will it grow into something more substantial in terms of faith?

Yeah, that'd be cool.

I like the prayer request section, but what about just plain open-minded discussion? There are some things in which I am genuinely interested. Raised in a Methodist home, going to my high-school-sweetheart's Baptist Church, and converted to my wife's Church of Christ then abandoning them for a more bible-based church, I've seen a lot. But I want to know what other people out there think.

That is a really good question Lynn. And one that I 'm not sure I can answer 100%...yet. This forum was kinda started on a whim - Lena just mentioned it to me that she wondered how to start one - about 15 minutes later I was IM'ing her w/ the URL to a new forum (the old site) and FHL was born. To me it would look something like this:
FHL Purpose
Faith - A place to share our faith with others
Hope - A place that gives hope to those who don't know Christ.
Love - A place where the love of Christ is shown in every thread.

Now, that is the simple version and are strictly my thoughts. This forum is in it's infancy so - we can make it what we want. I have no plans on tossing out rules that make this forum what I or what the rest of the FHL staff members want. This is not about me or Lena or the mods. IMO, this is about Christ. I want this to be a place where Christians can come and "re-charge" their spiritual batteries. I want this to be a place where people can feel free to discuss any spiritual issues that they are having without fear of being "flamed" or harassed for their views. We call come from different spiritual backgrounds - regardless of your doctrine - there is one simple fact that remains.....is Christ is at the center of it all?
I also want this to be a place where a person that is seeking Christ can come and ask questions and feel comfortable doing that.

Again - this is all MY OPINION - so I'm not speaking for Lena..........

I would love for this to grow into something more & substantial. How that will happen or what that looks like.....I think it's to early to tell. I think it also depends on the members of this forum and what you post on these pages. If you are looking for something more spiritually substantial - then post your questions - thoughts - prayers ect.... This is really going to be what the members make of it.

**And - also want this to be a place where we can relax - have fun - and just "hang out".

GR

andiesmama - December 1, 2005 01:13 PM (GMT)
In response to Lynn's question....

I was thinking about it last night, and my thoughts are kinda like GR in that this forum is still young & new...we're all really just kinda getting re-acquainted in our new (or "another") home....you know, playing all the get-to-know-you games & stuff like that?

I think as we get more settled in, etc, then we'll start seeing alot more topics that are "meaty" and thought-provoking....

But, in the same breath, if somebody posted one of those topics today....something that's been on your mind, or a question you have or struggle you're dealing with....we'd all jump right in & I think it would take off!

I'd just like to say it's really nice being able to hang out with like-minded people....(ie:HUMOUR, etc) to share and fellowship with. I'm looking forward to growing with FHL!

My reply here is

I just want this site to be plain and simple. Christians & non-Christians alike are more than welcome here to post whatever is on their minds. We all know that CF is a huge site and probably even too huge, IMO. And there are folks who are actually afraid to speak their minds there because of the warning system, so then half the folks don't even bother responding because of that. Well, I don't like that. Over here the rules are very plain and very simple and very easy to abide by. I mean, look at 'em! :P Of course, changes will happen, but it can't all happen overnight. I really hope that it will grow in terms of faith and that people will feel at home here no matter what their denomination/beliefs.:)

Now, I only had an "idea" as to a site like this and I happened to mention it to the guy who did it. GutterRat IM'd me back saying a site was up and ready! I had to slide my chair back to the desk because I was that shocked that he did it so fast! I mean, it was only an idea! I didn't even dream of it being like it is now. I'm still awed over it.

BIG THANKS TO GUTTERRAT AND ALL OF YOU GUYS FOR JOINING UP AND MAKING IT POSSIBLE!

I'm gonna go cry now! ;)

LynnMcG - December 1, 2005 06:03 PM (GMT)
Thanks guys. All good answers, and kind of what I was hoping you were going to say.

clayman - December 1, 2005 07:29 PM (GMT)
I like the "Walk the walk" forum. :booyah: I think that's kinda what we're after.

While I was there, I was thinking about the title. We do have Faith, Hope and Love. Hope is titled "Prayer" and Love is titled "Life".

My wife's a notorious tickler. When I ask her why she's so mean, she just replies, "It's not mean. It's love." Well, I hope she wouldn't do that to anyone she doesn't love.

It's the same way in the Life forums. We're mean 'cuz we love ya!

So, we have Faith, Hope and Love.

How about a forum where we can place pics?

Like family, member photos...etc?

Can we upload files to this website or just ref?

We can do this. The only thing is - we couldn't upload the pictures to this site. Well, we could - but we'd reach our limit kinda fast. So, if I do make one - it would be limited to direct linking to the photo. IE - using the [img] tags. Which is fine - cause everyone can get a Photobucket membership for free - they will host pics for free. So....ok......give me a min & it will be ready.

Hey Gutter,

Can you add "View all posts" for a particular person as a part of their profile? I'm in another forum that uses the same structure as this and I know it has that capability. It's nice to track what a certain person may post.

Thanks!!

clayman - December 12, 2005 05:14 AM (GMT)
Looking into it...

At this point I've figured out how to find all the topics a certain user has started. Click on the user name (just about anywhere) and it will take you to their profile. At the top of their profile, is a link to "Find All Topics by this Member". Click on that and it will show you all the topics this member has started.

I'll find out if we can do more...

mdolls68 - December 12, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah...I know how to do the "Find All Topics" but I don't start too many topics, rather I just post to those already started. I know it's possible. If you can't figure it out, I'll ask in the other forum I'm in how he did it.

Ok - this is done. You should be "view all posts" now by going into the persons profile & see the link on the top. Now, keep in mind it is looking at ALL posts - so it could take awhile to finish - depending on who you are searching.

I'm going to close this thread. If you have more suggestions - please create a new thread for the suggestion.

Thanks everyone! Keep them coming!!
