Title: Technical Difficulties!
ceres - January 16, 2006 06:45 PM (GMT)
Some of you are better at this electronic gadget thing so someone help me pleaseeee.
What I have here is a Sony Digital HandyCam. And my handy computer HP with the plug in in front. I have a wire that plugs into the camera and into the computer.
Voila!
But now..... I am lost.
Yesterday I installed this program called "arcsoft video impression2"
I tried going in there and figuring out how to get to my video. No clue.
I don't know how to find the wire in here so I can access the movie.
What is going on......... :wall:

Need a little more details.
I'm assuming what you mean is that the computer has a USB port on the front. It may also have video input and/or output on the front, but I'm not sure.
What would really help is knowing the model of the HP computer you have. Most likely a Pavilion - what's the rest of it?
Also, your HandyCam - what kind of output does it have? Video only or does it have a USB port on it?
If your HandyCam is like my video camera, it takes analog video and digital stills. What that means is the videos are only viewable through regular TV ports and the digital pictures are viewable by computer.
There are a lot of variables on this -- please fill in the blanks, and we'll be more than happy to help!

Its a desktop HP computer is that what you mean? It says: 3700 AMD Athlon 64 Processor, 1.0 GB memory, 200 GB hard drive. :dunno: Doesn't say anything about Pavillion.
Yes on the rfont there is a USB 2.0 plug in "port" so I have my wire plugged in there.
The handycam *I think* has a usb outlet. It has the same picture as the usb port on the computer and the other end of the same wire plugs in there. Is that what it means??
The camera says on the side of it "Digital Video Camera Recorder"

OK - I'm on the same page as you. Sounds like it's connected properly - as long as the wires fit without too much mangling.
Let me do some research on HandyCam and ArcSoft and I'll get back to you.

Wow! There are a lot of HandyCams out there, and all of them have different support pages. Um, which one is yours?
Still researching...

Ok, maybe this is a stupid question - and maybe you already posted it and I just didn't read it...but...do you have the instruction book that came w/ the camera? I usually don't suggest reading them - but since it's not a microsoft or dell product - you should be safe. :)

I have a sony camcorder too and when I bought it they sent all the software with it to do the video editing. Sounds like you need to make sure all the software they sent is loaded onto your computer or look for some software preloaded that says something like DVD editor somin somin. Then make sure the cord they sent is in the camera and computer and everything is pluged in and turned on, and you should be able to playback anything on the camera. Make sure your camera is on the right settings too. My cord was a fire wire to USB but that may have changed. If you read the instructions like GR said and you tried pluggin in all the cords and accessing from the DVD software, and it still doesn't work.....wait for Clay he'll hook you up.
Sometimes if you rub the top left corner of your monitor that helps.....sometimes.

Once you plug the camera in, assuming you are plugging it to the USB port, can you go to My Computer and see it? It should be under a different drive. I have a HP as well - and on the Desktop, it will show something like C: hard drive, D: recovery E: CD/DVD F: whatever I have plugged into the USB... (although it may not be F...I just pulled that letter) I'm not sure if that makes sense or not...
I'm not familiar with Arcsoft, but do they have an import video feature or have you already tried that?
Sorry if these are "been there done that" things - I'm just kinda brainstorming without actually seeing it...
