Title: I'm So Nervous...

andiesmama - January 16, 2006 02:31 PM (GMT)
I joined a playgroup in our area...tomorrow morning is the first time I'll join the mommies & kids at a playground....

Isn't it crazy?? I'm NERVOUS about meeting these mommies for the first time!! How "high school" is that?? But it'll be so good for Andie, they've got tons of activities they do, so I figure even if there's not ONE mom that I "click" with, I can suck it up for an hour or two a week for the sake of my little girl...

I'm such a dork.... :tease:

LOL, Deb! There's nothing to worry about. You'll be yacking about mommy things before you know it! I've been to a few of those groups with my kids. Took a parenting course when Candace was a baby. Went twice a week...it was so weird, yet I hit it off with a couple other moms and we had a blast. At that time we didn't know Isaiah was autistic yet and that's why I went. Wanted to observe him with other kids and try to get some sort of answers....anyways, I'm rambling here.

You'll have fun! I'm sure of it! And no...you are not a dork! I am! :tease:

oh my. You're right, you're a dork.

Look, you're prob'ly going to be the coolest mom in the group! AND, you represent us - your sisters in Christ. So don't embarass us. OK?

:tease:

Wait, just thought about this again. I need to edit my thoughts sometimes, I swear.

We have a playgroup at our church that I've been going to for about 4 years. It's open to anyone in the community. Lately, Christians are out numbered by non-christians. But what's really cool about that, is that we're still an influence. Think about the opportunity to witness! One woman was raised a Christian and fell away. Others are Catholic, but not really what you would consider practicing. Still others are so far away from the faith of their childhood, that we're just a breath of fresh air for them. For most of them, we're the only Christians they come in contact with.

We don't actively minister to them unless they ask or the need arises. And believe me, the need does arise. But more than anything, we watch, listen, talk, and then we know their needs so we can pray for them. We're always saying, they need us. They really need us. It's neat to see how God works, even in the lives of a SAHM at play group!

You know, I ASPIRE to be the "cool mom"...lol!!

And by not embarrassing us...does that mean I can't talk about stuff like shivering when we pee or the multi-uses of Altoids??? :eyebrows:

PS....it IS a good way to witness, I know....I'm still nervous, tho....it's easier to talk & be myself online than in person....if you met me in person, I'd be so shy & quiet....you'd think it was my evil twin!! B)

Shy and quiet! I would be in real life for about 2 minutes...once you get me talking, there's no end! And to think I used to be a shy person. HA! But I am a good listener. And if someone has a funky accent, I'll just sit and listen to it. :D

I hear you about the witnessing bit, too. If the opportunity arises, go for it! Even if it takes Altoids to start it!

Sometimes it's not whipping out the word and wacking someone with it. It's just living a life of example. That's a great witness, especially as a parent. It's amazing what some people call parenting. Now we should all be reaching inside of ourselves, using the Grace God blesses us with each day when we're dealing with our kids, right? So if you're behaving in a way that is pleasing to God when you're around non-believers in a situation like play group, that speaks volumes!
