Just wanna say Thank You very, very, very, very much to Redguard for designing the new header on our site! It's awesome!

And thank you to everyone for joining up & posting. Keep it up! And spread the word about FHL!

Yeah, I LOOOOVE it....good job!

I'm wondering (since I don't know about the design mechanics of this site)... is it possible for the banner to be centered, with a white background?

I made the banner 800 pixels wide, but with most people using a 1024x768 screen, that leaves extra width room, and right now I'm seeing some repeating blue bars on the right hand side. It takes away from the effect that I was hoping for.

Yeah - we are working on that right now - trying to get it centered.

Totally cool Redguard! Great job! Is it set the way you wanted now?

It's alright.

I'm trying to picture in my mind how I can redesign it so that the banner can fill the entire header, regardless of the resolution that different people may have their monitors set to.

The banner shrunk though. I made it at 800x240 and now it's 758x227. Did Imageshack do that? And there's a tag attached to the banner that says "Image hosted by Imageshack". (When you hold your mouse over it). Maybe you can change it says "Faith, Hope, and Love Forums".

Hey Redguard, I shrunk the banner to 758x227 because it was too big and created a scroll bar for users with 800x600 resolution. I can change the hover text to read Faith, Hope and Love. Not sure if it can be done to have the banner fit different resolutions. I seem to remember some code that can do this but I don't know how intergrated it could be with the forum code. I'll see what I can find :)

Great job on the graphics, Redguard!

I tried to check out the source on the page -- it's locked down. Must be proprietary. Were you hosting it on a private server, you could change the image tag to read anything you wanted.

Hmmm. Who's Photobucket?

Ahh.. I see. I went on the assumption that nobody used 800x600 resolution anymore.

LOL I can't see anything at 1024x768 so I use 800x600. I know, I'm blind LOL

The people in my office are always mad at me because I make all my reports using super small numbers.

My screen resolution on my home computer is actually "higher" than 1024x768.

Don't you have to have 1024x768 as your minimum resolution setting in order to use Photoshop? I thought I read that somewhere.

I've never heard of that before. My Photoshop CS works just fine with my 800x600 resolution thankfully cos I'd hate to keep swapping resolutions just so I could see! :D

I do! Right now, the screen looks cut off. I see the black strip on the bottom that says Welcome to....and that's it. I have to slide over to see the rest of it.

Redguard - November 30, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
Okay.

Well, in that case, I'm gonna make a new banner.

This one can be left-aligned... and I'll change up the coloring so that as it fades to the right, you can see more "white". And then it can be placed on a white background for those of us who use 1024x768.

What about those of us w/ 1280 by 1024? At least - that is what I have at home.....but at work - it's 1024 x 768. :)

GR,
How much control do you have? It seems to me that if you can center-align this thing then it will show up right no matter what the resolution.

Also, I've been looking up some HTML, and there are dynamic ways to insert images (ie: images that will grow or shrink depending on the browser window size). Let me know if you're interested.

I have 1280x1024 at home as well (yeah, I like my fonts and icons to be really small).

I just don't like the way it looks when it's center-aligned, and had I been more aware of the people who still use 800x600 resolution, I wouldn't have designed it that way.

I've already started on a new style that will be suitable for 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024 (and even the widescreeners out there).

I absolutely do not recommend stretching an image. There is no better way to ruin an image than by using HTML to stretch it. Completely distorts it. :boo:

Yeah - Sarah is the one in charge of that.

PM her the info!

Thanks Harry! :poop: Sorry......

Sarah, GutterRat... can either of you install this image into the banner header?

Let's see how it looks.

user posted image

This time, you can left-align it and then the white background will fill the right for those of us with higher resolution monitors.

It has to be aligned to the LEFT in order for it to work properly

GutterRat - December 2, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Refresh - is that what ya had in mind?

Redguard - December 2, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
Sorry, I'm a really meticulous person when it comes to this stuff, lol.

The "table" looks like it has an active border or something because once the graphic ends, I can see a thin black line. Are you able to identify it in the HTML and change it to border=0?

GutterRat - December 2, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
Need to get you on MSN Red - so we can "chat".

Redguard - December 2, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
lol

Not tonight. I'm about to log off. Check your email for the other small banner.

How's that Red?

clayman - December 2, 2005 02:08 PM (GMT)

Hey, GR, are you entering all the HTML for this?

No. The site does allow for some HTML changes to be made. Sarah is doing most of that.

I know some HTML - enough to get by.

How about all you 800x600 cavepeople? Does it look okay for you guys?
